DATES
- Omit nd, th, and st in dates: January 1, not January 1st.
- Use yesterday, today, and tomorrow for days immediately surrounding the day of publication. (This rule seldom applies to university publications.)
- When referring to a date less than a week away, use the day of the week as well as the date.
- When referring to a date more than a week away, use the date. Use the day of the week only for emphasis.
TIMES
- AM, PM or a.m., p.m. (both are fine)
- Use 5:30 p.m., not 5:30 p.m. tonight nor 5:30 o'clock.
- Use 4 p.m., not 4:00 p.m.
- Use from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; do not use a hyphen (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) except in non-narrative copy where space is limited.
- Use from 7 to 8 p.m. It is not necessary to repeat p.m.
- Use midnight and noon with the hour of 12. Lowercase to be consistent with a.m. and p.m.
