Official Campus Signage
Each campus should have an exterior sign visible from the road with the University
name prominently displayed. Ideally a nameplate would be used for signage.
The Logo and complete name of the University should be identified on
all campus signs. When space and design permits, the website should also
be listed.
Permanent Informational Signage
Informational signage signs include parking lot signs, "you
are here signs" and the like. All campus signage must be approved
by University Communications and the Office of Campus Safety and ordered to the following
specifications: The Logo and name of the university should be noted,
but in diminutive form since the nature of the sign is informational
versus promotional. The letters should be in a bold, white sans serif
typeface. The sign colors should be MBU Blue (PMS 281) and the support
legs should be A54 (Graphite) on the APCO Color System chart (8th edition,
2004).
Handicap and reserved sign use are to be approved by the Office of Campus Safety.
Building Names
In the case of individual building signs, the building name takes precedence
to the Logo and Seal/or Logo. This does present design challenges
in some cases. Readability, brevity and clarity should guide
decisions on what to include and how to present building information.
No logo or university name is needed on building names, but formal
names should always be used on the exterior of the buildings.
Ideally these would be viewable from roadways and/or common walkways.
Interior Promotional Signs
The Dean of Students Office manages
campus-wide interior display signage and approval. Please consult that
office for specific information on event and notification display.
Some departments -- and many faculty members -- oversee specific bulletin
boards and extraneous materials should not be posted on those boards
without approval.
Posters and flyers are never to be taped to walls, stairwell handrails or doors. The only exception to this rule is in the case of campus closings or safety/emergencies when the Office of Campus Safety can post warning notices on exterior doors.
