Missouri Baptist University

Color is an important apsect of visual identity. Imagine Coke with a different color red or Kodak without it's yellow. For the Missouri Baptist University, it is all about MBU Blue.

As you may notice, the colors you see on your screen are not an exact matche to those in print form. Your monitor's color calibration (white point, brightness, RGB balance) will affect the way the colors are interpreted. Each color sample is listed by name, with the color space specifications indicated for CMYK, RGB, LAB and approximate PMS colors. Hexidecimal RGB numbers are provided for web publishing as well as a web-safe palate number in parenthasis. The color blocks are approximate hues and are entirely dependant upon your monitor's settings.

The official MBU Blue is standardized. Any blue tone close to its hue only confuses the real definition of the color. Blues that are readily identified as non-MBU Blue are not in conflict with the identity of MBU Blue and therefore can be used in other color schemes in which they fit. Anytime a colorscheme calls for a dark/navy blue, MBU Blue must be used. No other blue is ever to be used with the graphic elements.

• Our official school colors are blue and white.
• Silver is the recommended substitution for white.
• Gold is to be limited in use -- check with University Communications first.
• There is generally more flexibility for apparel.

MBU Blue (Pantone 281) is used in full intensity (100%.) When the Logo 2002 is printed on a solid color (MBU Blue), plain white ink or metalic silver should be used in what is called a knock-out. Black is an acceptable substitution for graphic elements printed on single or two-color publications but it should always be MBU Blue in full-color jobs. Careful note should be used when printing two-color jobs and not using black or MBU Blue -- all such jobs need expressed permission from University Communications before beginning.

The color swatches are approximate representations and depend entirely upon your computer and monitor settings. Please refer to a Pantone Process Color System Guide for exact color samples.

MERCHANDISE AND ATHLETICS
Athletic colors are defined as the colors used on athletic merchandise, including but not excluding: team uniforms, jackets, banners, cheerleader uniforms and merchandise, and other products that promote or are otherwise related to the athletic program.

The primary athletic colors are navy-blue and white. While navy-blue allows some measure of color interpretation, effort should be made to keep the colors as accurate as possible.

Accent colors for athletics include a rich red and silver. The red should not be as dark as burgundy and should never resemble pink.

Due to the variety of uniform and clothing retailers, the exact matching of colors is sometimes not an option as in paper printing. You must choose a color that best matches the MBU Blue. If in doubt, contact University Communications.

COLOR
The metallic ink for the University is silver (PMS 877). Silver sets itself nicely against the MBC Blue and lends itself as a natural substitute for white when the situation lends itself to a more elegant color selection. Gold is not to be used as a metallic color for the University.
