What Am I Doing?!?!

One of the main struggles when you get into college, especially a Christian college, is finding your “call”. This is something I have struggled with since I came in as a Freshman. Originally I wanted to be a music major. Then they told me I’d be in school for 5 years if I did that, so that was out of the question. Then I decided I wanted to teach pre-school. After actually teaching for a year I decided that probably wasn’t the best route for me. Then I came back to school thinking theatre sounded fun, but after a semester of that I realized I just didn’t have the edge I needed. Now I am a Human Services major. So now, 3 years later, I think I have finally found a major that suits me.

God has given me a call in life. He’s called me to serve others in need of peace, grace, service, and simply a friend. Everyone tells me social work is one of the hardest fields, but I believe God has equipped me with a strong will and tender heart specifically for this field. Unfortunately, most people coming into college have no idea what they want to do or where they want to go in their life. What we as Christians tend to forget at times is it really isn't about what we think we need to do, it is about being where God wants you and doing what He tells you to do.

So what if you don’t know exactly what you want to do when you come into college. A good majority who are upperclassmen have no idea what we want to do either. It’s not that big of a deal. Give it time, let God work through you so you get a clear picture of what He really wants in your life. A verse I like to recall is Philippians 1:6. It says “Being confident of this, He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” You don’t have to know exactly what you are doing with your life. God has a plan for our lives and He will be "Faithful" to carry it through to completion.
