Beautiful Place, Beautiful People, Beautiful God
Over spring break Faithful, our director Rob, and his wife went to California and of course we all had a blast. Don’t get me wrong… waking up between 5:30 and 7:30 everyday over spring break really wasn’t all that exciting, but the rest of the trip was great. We did everything from move mounds of dirt to leading worship and it was all for the glory of God. Now, I used to mow grass as a summer job, and I actually sort of liked it, and I have always enjoyed some good ‘ole sweaty physical labor (I don’t really know why, but I do) that comes along with mission trips, so that part of the trip was just as enjoyable, if not more so, than the singing part of things. However, my favorite part of our journey west was the people that we met on our way. Everywhere we went the churches welcomed us and made us feel at home. It seemed as though one or two people from each church really made us feel special and they blessed us all in special ways. Some made vital donations to help out with trip expenses, some just took a few minutes of their time to say an uplifting prayer with us, others took some time to relax in the shade and chat, still others fed us incredible meals to keep us going, and some worked right along side us out in the heat. No matter what the action, every one of those people blessed us in huge ways.
Now, we’ve all heard about the “crazy people” that live out in California, and there definitely are some of those people (you can tell by their driving), but as Rob was trying to keep his eyes on the road I couldn’t help but keep my eyes on the scenery. I have never had the privilege to go to the mountains, and California definitely has some stunning mountains. The weather was beautiful as well and every day that I walked out the front door of Meredith’s parents’ house I loved the fresh desert air. And of course, there is nothing like the ocean. To hear the waves crashing, feel the salty water on my legs, smell the ocean mist and watch a gorgeous sun set on the horizon is breathtaking.
All in all I decided that my week in California was a trip full of beautiful places and beautiful people. God is awesome and He totally blessed our trip and kept us safe. Everywhere we went He sent us strong Christian people that encouraged us, and spiritually fed us while we were away from those in our lives who normally do those jobs. God is good!
