Love One Another
Love. What is love? This question is hard to answer, especially around this time of year. Valentine’s Day is a holiday when people want to feel loved and have someone to love even if they don’t truly love that person, but God hasn’t called us to love one or two days out of the year. Oh no, He has called us to love all the time. In fact, in Luke 6:35 we are told to love even our enemies and expect nothing in return. Unfortunately, I am having the trouble of feeling called to love someone, and not really wanting to. Honestly, this person is super hard for me to love, but I know that I need to. The entire verse of Luke 6:35 says this, “Love your enemies and do good and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great; you shall be the children of the Highest; for I am kind to the unthankful and to the evil.” Did you read that last part? God says he is kind to the unthankful and to the evil. Now, God doesn’t have to do anything for us, but He sent His son to die for us so that we could have eternal life and He is kind to everyone.
Because I have accepted the gift that God has so graciously offered me I am also called to be kind to the unthankful and the evil. I don’t know about you, but this is hard! Nevertheless, God never told me that I could back out on a calling that was hard. John 13:34-35 reads, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. As I have loved you, you also love one another. By this shall all men know that you are My disciples, if you have love one to another.” What do I need to do in response to this commandment? Simply throw up my hands and say, “Yes, God, I will.”
