Merry Christmas

I just wanted to share a few quick thoughts as we close out the year.

To everyone in Faithful and Closer (including sound guy Mike, aka George) thank you for a great first semester. I appreciate all of the hard work you all have put in to make our year successful so far. I also really appreciate the Christmas gift. I am really excited about the new year and all of the crazy and fun times still to come. I know that God has some incredible things in store for us. To the girls in Faithful, I can't wait for our Spring Break Tour to sunny southern California.

I also wanted to say thank you to my family for all of their support and understanding for the time it takes to be a part of these two amazing ministries. I love you Melissa, Lauren, and Stephen.

Thank you all for a great year so far. May God bless you and your families this Christmas and may you experience a joyous beginning to the new year.

I love you guys!

How Much Do We Really Owe?

Last night I went to a thing called Abandon here at the college. In case you don't know what Abandon is, it is a time of worship that is laid back and inspirational. Anyway, during this time I got to thinking about something: What do I owe God? I don't know why this thought popped into my head exactly, because it has been lingering in my mind for quite some time now; off and on. It is certain that God wants me to evaluate myself and what I give Him so... What do I owe God?

You know, God doesn't ask for much: Ten percent of our wages for tithing. That's not much. He gives us all that we have to begin with, but He only asks for a small portion back in return. He also asks that we spend time in His Word, talking to Him through prayer, and worshipping Him with fellow Christians. Basically, He wants us to know Him deeply. But, again I ask: What do I... or WE for that matter... owe God?

You know, in my last entry I told you about my new found quiet time with God every day. But what is 20 minutes of my time? That is not enough. It is necessary, by all means, but I need to give more. Does God ask that I seclude myself and just sit in my dorm room all day reading His Word? Of course not. So, how then do I give all of the time I have to God? Because, although He doesn't ask for much, He also asks for our whole life. Everything we have is supposed to be for Him.

How you spend your time and what you do for Him is between you and God. Not anyone else. I know that I need to reevaluate how I have been using my time. What about you? How much do you owe God? I think the answer is simple: Everything! The question is: Are you willing to give it?

"Gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ, as obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance. But as I who have called you am holy, so you be holy in all manner of life, because it is written, 'Be holy, for I am holy.'" 1 Peter 1:13-16

Waiting

Do you ever find yourself waiting? In line, in traffic, waiting for a class to start, waiting for the class to end? Waiting for the next spiritual high to get you through the valley you may be in.
I know for me personally I tend to get stuck in these waiting “rooms” longing to be somewhere else. My life becomes stagnant and I long for the next big event to take place: Christmas break, graduation, getting a real job, getting married… I lose focus on what’s in front of me and where God’s placed me. I’m “waiting” in this stage of my life for a reason. God has a plan for each day, each moment. I’m where I am now for a purpose. The waiting that’s being done should just be waiting on the Lord and for His plan to unfold.

Psalm 25:5 “Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my
salvation; on you I wait all the day.”

Psalm 37:7a “Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him…”

Psalm 62:5 “My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.”
