Who Is Allusion?

Allusion, Missouri Baptist University’s vocal jazz/pop ensemble, consists of talented singers who perform throughout the St. Louis area and are featured in a Spring music tour. They are accompanied by a traditional "jazz combo" of piano, bass and drums, all in the care of a student sound tech. Some selections call for added guests on solo instrument.

Allusion's reputation is growing as they entertain both on and off campus for school, church, civic, and business groups. They offer an eclectic repertoire ranging from jazz standards to the contemporary sounds of jazz/rock fusion, from popular music to "oldies," from blues to the gospel sound. As they say: "Vocal jazz and so much more."

Allusion is under the direction of Mrs. Pat Lacey, member of the music faculty at Missouri Baptist University. Mrs. Lacey is a talented performer herself with a wide background in all types of music, a background from which she draws as she challenges the group to top quality singing and performance. She feels that although performance is the most visible part of the group, education is its main purpose. She helps them to take ownership of the performance and management of the group. As she says, "I work them hard and then just turn them loose. I know I’ve done my job when they don’t need me anymore!"

Where would Allusion like to be?

Your Civic group, Club, Community Event, or Business Banquet – anywhere you want a lively bunch of young people who give an upbeat performance that entertains adults of all ages. References can be supplied.

Your High School – Let our students introduce your students to Missouri Baptist University. For one class or a whole school, we’re there!

Your Church – Though we are unable to perform for Sunday morning services (several of our members have church obligations) we would love to do banquets for which you’d like your audience to hear good clean secular music done by fine Christian young people. And we find Senior Adults are some of our biggest fans! (They also feed us well!)
