For day-to-day purposes, our organization's name is Missouri Baptist University or MBU. When used in promotional materials, the University's name should be readily identifiable and always noted as "Missouri Baptist University" on the face of any publication.
There are other names used in reference to the institution. "MBU", "MoBap", and "the University" are referenced in this document. Please note the specific uses of each as indicated below.
MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY
This is the formal use of the University's reference. It is to be used on the face (front or outside of publications) of a publication and be readily identifiable. When used in such a situation, it must adhere to the specifications of the "NamePlate".
When used in text, the first MBU reference must be "Missouri Baptist University" in the regular text font. Do not bold, underline or otherwise draw attention to the name within a text block. This is the only textual reference that can be used in conjunction with the Logo 2002 graphic element.
MBU
This is the abbreviated (acronym) reference to the University. It is not to be used on official materials as the lone name. It is to be used within a body of text after the full name of the University has been established. It is always capped without periods. This is also the preferred use on athletic merchandise, parking tags and in other limited-space uses. MBU may be used with the logo in such cases but the web address should be added in all instances when the complete University name is not provided.
MOBAP
This reference is generally considered to be slang and restricted from formal use. The obvious exception would be in reference to the University's website. When using it in that fashion, please note that the proper use is "mobap.edu" or "www.mobap.edu". A few cases exist when the name's use is acceptable but other uses are restricted unless specifically approved by the Director of University Communications .
THE UNIVERSITY
Whenever the name of the University can be used in place of the word "university", it needs to be capitalized. When it is used in a generic manner, however, it must not be capitalized.
EXTENSIONS
When an extension is used in conjuntion with the name of the University, the focus should be balanced between the University name and the extension's location. It is best to phrase the use so that the "extension" tag is unnecessary. "Location," and "site" are not to be used as a substitute for "extension." "Campus" is acceptable in internal in informational documents but not in formal academic documents.
