Please read all the following criteria before submitting this form.

B. In advance of filing the application with the Center for Distance Learning, all MBU faculty wishing to teach an online course should:

  1. Become familiar with all Distance Learning Center policies and procedures (Faculty Resources - Distance Learning Website).
  2. Discuss the possibility of this course being placed online with the Division Chair.
  3. Consult with the Division IT Mentor.
  4. Formulate a list of support services uniquely required for this course.
  5. Attend a Blackboard Workshop
  6. Attend a LERN online class.

C. All faculty wishing to have their course approved or re-approved should carefully consider the following criteria before submitting their application:

  • Will the Bb Announcement page well organized, easy to navigate and logical?
  • Will the syllabus easily identified and does it clearly delineate the role the online environment will play in the total course?
  • Will the aesthetic design effectively present and communicate course information?
  • Will there be consistency in all aspects of the entire web course?
  • Will there be multiple opportunities for student input and feedback integrated throughout the course?
  • Will the course offer multiple opportunities for interaction and communication?
  • Will learning objectives and performance expectations appropriate and clearly defined?
  • Will strategies for meeting multiple learning styles and promoting critical thinking skills implemented?
  • Will student feedback be regularly integrated into the instructional design (e.g. – student feedback is used to guide instructional decisions)?
  • Will students self-assess their readiness for the online components/course prior to or at the beginning of class?
  • Will course objectives, instructional strategies and assessment techniques be closely aligned?
  • Will multiple assessment strategies be used to measure content knowledge, skills, and performance standards?
  • Will the student’s self-assessment and/or peer feedback opportunities be utilized as part of this course?
  • Will instructor feedback about student performance be provided in a timely manner?
  • Will the course use a variety of technology tools that are appropriate and effective for facilitating communication and learning?
  • Will relevant multimedia be made available to effectively engage students in the learning process?
  • Will ongoing student feedback be used to continually improve technological delivery of course content?
  • Will important information about being an online student MBU (e.g. links to Student Computing, Disabled Student Services, Library, the University’s policy on academic dishonesty) be made available to the student?
  • Will the course provide a variety of course-specific resources to enhance online student learning?
  • Will the course use a variety of technology tools that are appropriate and effective for facilitating communication and learning?
  • Will the course offer access to a range of media resources appropriate to course (e.g.- CD-ROM based tutorials and necessary applications)?
  • Will feedback be solicited from students regarding learner support, resources, and whether modifications are made when appropriate.
