MBU Pitcher Signs with Washington Nationals
Clayton Dill, a left handed relief pitcher for the Missouri Baptist University baseball team, has signed with Major League Baseball's Washington Nationals. Dill, who transferred to MBU for the 2008 season from Midland College, was drafted in the 35th round. The Spartan baseball team that won both the American Midwest Conference Regular Season and Post-Season titles and the NAIA Region V Championship (40-16-1) will miss having Dill on the mound next year, which would be his senior season. But, one college program’s loss could be a professional program’s gain.
Kerrick Jackson, the Washington Nationals Area Scouting Supervisor, said of Dill, “With Clayton's work ethic and hard-nosed approach, we are expecting to see good things from him on the hill. He has the stuff to become a quality left-handed reliever at the professional level. Any time you can add a left-hander with quality stuff, you have to seize the opportunity.”
Also moving on to the professional ranks is MBU catcher Lucas Hulsey. Hulsey will join former MBU teammate Garrett Bauer on the Rockford Riverhawks of the Frontier Independent Baseball League. Bauer and Hulsey are both scheduled to start for the Riverhawks in Wednesday night’s game, with Bauer on the mound and Hulsey behind the plate.
