Spartan Baseball Run for the World Series Ends (May 16, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University baseball team's run for an NAIA World Series appearance has come to an end. The Spartans lost game two of the NAIA Mid-South Super Regional to Oklahoma City University 10-7 at OCU's Jim Wade Stadium on Friday night. The Spartans fall short of their attempt at their first ever NAIA World Series, while the Stars will be making their tenth NAIA World Series appearance. MBU concludes their season 40-16-1.…

Spartan Baseball Drops Game One to OCU (May 15, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University baseball team fell to 40-15-1 in a 5-4 loss Thursday night to the fifth-ranked Oklahoma City University Stars (54-10). The game was the first in the best-of-three NAIA Super Regional Series at OCU's Jim Wade Stadium. MBU will look to stay alive in its NAIA World Series run in game two of the series at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fans can listen to the game and follow statistics live on OCU's website HERE. MBU Baseball and Softball Players Earn All-Region Honors (May 14, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University baseball team and softball team earned individual honors at their respective NAIA Region V Post-Season Tournaments. The Lady Spartans' Lindsay Parker, a junior pitcher from Timberland High School in Wentzville, Mo. was named to the All-Region Softball Team. The Spartan baseball team had three players named to the All-Region Baseball Team; Brandon Patek, a senior outfielder from Festus High School, Joel Johnson, a senior outfielder from Camas, Wash., and Scott Talbert, a senior first baseman from Marquette High School in Chesterfield. Dayne Dyer was also named to the Academic All-Region Baseball Team.…

Spartan Baseball Featured on St. Louis Television News (May 13, 2008)

The American Midwest Conference and NAIA Region V Champion Missouri Baptist University baseball team was featured on NBC affiliate KSDK News Channel 5 in Tuesday evening's 6:00 p.m. broadcast. The Spartans (40-14-1) are in the midst of a record breaking season, as they prepare to leave for this weekend's NAIA Mid-South Super Regional for the first time in program history. Women's Golf Competes at Region V Meet (May 13, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University women's golf team participated in the NAIA Region V Championship at Gustin Golf Course in Columbia, Missouri last week. MBU junior Jennifer Lotz shot an impressive 83-79 to capture a 7th Place individual finish among all competitors in the 36-hole contest. By making birdie on her final hole, she secured the Top 10 finish and made First Team All-Conference in the AMC. Lotz had won the event as a Freshman. MBU Baseball Wins First Ever Region Tournament Title (May 10, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University Spartan Baseball Team will be advancing to the NAIA Super Regional. The Spartans and Lindenwood Lions were tied 5-5 in the 8th inning of the NAIA Region V Championship game, when the game had to be called due to rain. Per NAIA rules, MBU was declared the Tournament Champion and will advance to the Super Regional, because they were the highest seeded team. Oklahoma City University will host MBU in the Super Regional on May 15th-17th. The winner of the three-game Super Regional Series will advance to the NAIA World Series. Matt Murray got the win…

MBU Baseball Defeats McKendree (May 9, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University Spartans are now one win away from the NAIA Region V Championship game, after defeating McKendree University 19-5 on Friday afternoon. Aaron Byington pitched for the win, and Josiah Peacock got the save. Scott Schneider (3 RBI) and Joel Johnson (4-for-5, 4 RBI) each hit two-run homeruns for MBU, and Brandon Patek hit a solo homerun. Spartan Baseball Wins First Game of Region V Tournament (May 9, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University baseball team defeated Culver-Stockton College in the first round of NAIA Region V Tournament play more than 24 hours after the game started. The Spartans were up 5-0 in the bottom of the 6th inning early Wednesday afternoon, when the game was delayed due to rain. Play was finally able to resume late afternoon Thursday. MBU Wrestling Signs Three Missouri Athletes (May 8, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University wrestling program has signed three Missouri\ athletes for the 2008-2009 academic year. Joining the men's wrestling team will be Corey Lee of Fort Zumwalt North High School and Pete Martinez of Marquette High School. Lee was a two-time MSHSAA Meet placer, and will wrestle at 141 lbs. for the Spartans. Joining the newly formed women's wrestling team is Erica Poe of Warsaw High School. Poe was a two-time MSHSAA Meet qualifier. Poe came one match away from place in the meet, where she competed with the boys.…

The Missouri Baptist University baseball team holds a 5-0 lead over Culver-Stockton in the 6th inning of first round NAIA Region V Tournament play. Softball Season Concludes in Region V Play (May 7, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University softball team went 0-for-2 in their appearance at the NAIA Region V Tournament in Springfield, Missouri on Tuesday, bringing their season to a close. The seventh seeded Lady Spartans were shut out 8-0 by number two seed Central Methodist University in the first game. The Lady Spartans managed to get on the scoreboard in the second game, but were defeated 7-3 by the number three seed Evangel University. The Lady Spartans finish their turnaround season with a 28-17 record and a third place American Midwest Conference Regular Season finish.…

Region V Baseball and Softball Pairings Released (May 5, 2008)

The NAIA Region V Baseball and Softball Tournament pairings have been released. The softball tournament will take place May 6th-8th in Springfield, Missouri. The baseball tournament will take place locally at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles May 7th-10th. The MBU softball team has received a seventh place seed of eight teams. They will face the number two seed Central Methodist University at noon on Tuesday. Admission for the tournament is $5 per day, or $10 for a tournament pass. Spartans Win AMC Baseball Tournament (May 3, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University baseball team swept through the American Midwest Conference Tournament to claim the 2008 AMC Tournament Championship. The Spartans defeated McKendree University 10-7 on Friday afternoon to claim the title. MBU's Blake Kearney pitched for the win, with Clayton Dill picking up the save. MBU Softball Takes Two from Wash. U (May 2, 2008)

The Lady Spartans rallied in both games to topple visiting Washington University on Thursday afternoon. In the opener, MBU spotted the Bears a 4-0 lead before plating 2 runs in the third, 2 runs in the fifth, and the game winner in the bottom of the sixth for a 5-4 comback victory. In the second game, the lady Spartans tallied all five of their runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat the visitors 5-1. MBU Baseball to Face McKendree in AMC Tournament Championship Game (May 1, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University baseball team remained undefeated in the American Midwest Conference Tournament on Thursday, defeating William Woods University 8-0. Matt Murray pitched all nine innings for the Spartans, and allowed only six hits. MBU's Joel Johnson and Riley Gavello had three hits each, with Gavello driving in three RBI. Francisco Vega added four hits. The number one seeded Spartans will now face the number two seed McKendree University Bearcats in the AMC Tournament Championship at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
