MBU Baseball Wins First Round Game (April 30, 2008)

The number one seed MBU baseball team shut out the number four seed Harris-Stowe State University 6-0 in the opening game of the American Midwest Conference Baseball Tournament on Wednesday. Aaron Byington pitched nine innings, earning the win for the Spartans. Brandon Patek led the Spartans' offensive attack, hitting 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and four RBI. MBU will now face the number three seed William Woods University at noon on Thursday. WWU beat McKendree University 4-2 in Wednesday's afternoon game. AMC Baseball Tournament Opens at MBU Today (April 30, 2008)

The 2008 American Midwest Conference Baseball Tournament opens today, Wednesday, April 30th on the campus of Missouri Baptist University. The MBU Spartans, who finished as the AMC Regular Season Champions, will enter the four team tournament as the number one seed. Play opens up at 11:00 a.m., when MBU faces the number four seed Harris-Stowe State University. The presentation of the Academic All-Conference awards will follow the conclusion of game one. MBU Baseball Clinches AMC Title (April 28, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University baseball team clinched a piece of the American Midwest Conference title this past weekend, taking three of four games from William Woods University. The Spartans finish the regular season 34-14 overall, 16-4 in the AMC. If McKendree University can get a double header sweep of Hannibal-LaGrange College Monday night, the Bearcats will share the AMC regular season title with the Spartans. MBU Softball Players Earn All-Conference Honors (April 27, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University softball team's American Midwest Conference Tournament run came to a close in a 0-1 loss to Williams Baptist College on Friday. At the conclusion of the tournament on Saturday, several Lady Spartans earned All-Conference Honors. Highlighting the list of honors was MBU pitcher Lindsay Parker, who was named the AMC Newcomer of the Year. Parker also earned First Team All-Conference honors, along with teammate Lauren Scovill. Men's Golf Finishes 7th in Region V Championship (April 27, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University men's golf team concluded its season at the NAIA Region V Championship at Paradise Point Golf Complex (Smithville, Mo.) on Thursday and Friday April 24-25. The Spartans finished in 7th place in a field of 12 teams. The team faired very well considering the blustery conditions endured once again this season. Softball Survives First Day of AMC Tournament (April 25, 2008)

The third seed Missouri Baptist University softball team has survived to day two of the American Midwest Conference Tournament in Springfield, Illinois. The Lady Spartans suffered defeat early Thursday afternoon at the hands of the University of Illinois at Springfield. The Lady Prairie Stars used their home field advantage to shut out the Lady Spartans 2-0. Lindsay Parker pitched for the loss for MBU. The Missouri Baptist University Department of Athletics is pleased once again to partner with the 2006 World Champion St. Louis Cardinals in selling tickets for one game at Busch Stadium in downtown St. Louis. AMC Softball Tournament Pairings Released (April 23, 2008)

The American Midwest Conference has released the 2008 AMC Softball Tournament Bracket. The double elimination tournament, to take place April 26th-28th, will be hosted by the University of Illinois at Springfield. The MBU Lady Spartans have received the third seed of eight teams. The Lady Spartans were in second place in the AMC for much of the season, but two losses to William Woods University on Tuesday night dropped MBU (25-13, 9-5) into third, with WWU finishing second, and Columbia College remaining in the top spot. Women's Wrestling Signs University World Champion (April 22, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University women's wrestling team has signed standout women's wrestler Stephany Lee, a native of Honolulu, Hawaii. Lee's credentials are very impressive, highlighted with her 2004 championship at the University World Championships. She has also placed numerous times at the United States Open, United States World Team Trials, was the Sunkist Open International Champion in 2005, and finished at the top of the podium at the 2006 Women's College Nationals while wrestling for Missouri Valley College. Baseball: On Senior Day, the Spartans honored their seniors with two wins over American Midwest Conference opponent Hannibal-LaGrange College. The Missouri Baptist University softball team picked up a win over NAIA 15th ranked Columbia College in an American Midwest Conference double header split at MBU on Wednesday. Men's Golf Ties for First at Missouri Valley Tournament (April 17, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University men's gofl team tied for first place with a score of 608 (297, 311)at Monday and Tuesdya's Missouri Valley Golf Tournament. The Spartans lost in a playoff, accepting the second place trophy. MBU's Kyle Jasper won second place overall and lost in a four hole playoff for the individual title. He led the team with 74-72 (146) respectively. And Zack Daugherty played extremely well too, with a third place overall individual finish with scores of 73-74 at 147. Baseball's Murray Earns AMC Pitcher of the Week Honors (April 16, 2008)

Matt Murray, a senior right-handed pitcher for the Spartan baseball team, has been named this week's American Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week. Murray, a graduate of Marquette High School, led the Spartans to two AMC victories last week. Murray allowed two runs and five hits over five innings in a 7-2 Missouri Baptist win over McKendree University last Monday. Baseball Takes Three of Four in Arkansas (April 14, 2008)

The Spartan baseball team played a four-game series against Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas this past weekend. The Spartans went three-for-four in the series. They lost their first game on Friday 8-9 in eight innings. MBU turned it around in game two to win 14-0. MBU again was in control all day Saturday, winning 10-0 and 12-8. Baseball Splits Double Header with Union (April 10, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University baseball team split a double header with Union University at MBU on Wednesday. Union prevailed in the opener 3-2, while the Spartans took the nightcap 12-4. Senior right hander Blake Kearney allowed only two hits in the contest, but the Spartan defense committed 5 errors in the first three innings to surrender three unearned runs. Lady Spartans Sneak by Greenville (April 10, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University softball team earned to hard fought victories over Greenville College on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Spartans went eight innings with the Panthers in game one. Lindsay Parker started the game for MBU, pitching four innings. Jessica Robinson came in relief, closing out the final four innings. The Missouri Baptist University softball team shut out Harris-Stowe State University in an American Midwest Conference double header on Monday. The Missouri Baptist University baseball team's Friday AMC double header at McKendree University has been postponed. The Spartans were scheduled to play Friday April 4th and Saturday April 5th in Lebanon, Illinois. Due to wet field conditions, the games have been pushed back. They will still play a double header on Saturday, but will play Friday's games on Monday at 1:00 p.m. The MBU softball team has postponed its AMC double header with Harris-Stowe State University, to be played at St. Louis University, until Monday at 2:00 p.m. Monday's originally scheduled games at Greenville College have been canceled.…

MBU Baseball Breaks into NAIA Top 20 (April 4, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University baseball team has finally broken into the NAIA Top 20 at the 20th spot, according to the NAIA ratings released April 2nd. The Spartans, 19-7 overall (4-0 in the AMC), spent the previous week receiving votes, but had fallen out of the Top 25. Their highest previous ranking this season was 21. The Missouri Baptist University men's golf team finished third of 14 teams at the William Woods Invitational in Fulton, Missouri on Tuesday. The Spartans finished just seven shots behind the winner.
