Men's Volleyball Concludes Regular Season (March 31, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University men's volleyball team concluded its regular season this weekend with near perfect play at the Lees McRae Tournament in Banner Elk, North Carolina. The Spartans made quick work of each of their three opponents. They swept Lees McRae (30-28, 30-13, 30-26) and Warner Southern College (30-20, 30-27, 30-21) on Friday. Matt Mahoney recorded 10 kills against Lees McRae and 13 kills against Warner Southern. Garrett Callender put up four blocks against WSC. On Saturday, the Spartans again swept their competition, beating King College (30-23, 30-24, 30-19). Callender had a strong performance for MBU, recording 12 kills…

Softball Sweeps Judson University (March 31, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University softball team got a non-conference sweep of Judson University in Elgin, Illinois on Saturday. The Lady Spartans won the first game 10-1. Lindsay Parker pitched for the win. Lauren Scovill went 3-for-3 at the plate, hit two homeruns, and drove in five runs. MBU won the second game 12-2, behind Jessica Robinson's pitching. The wins improve the Lady Spartan overall record to 13-7. They are 2-0 in the American Midwest Conference.…

Baseball Sweeps HSSU in Four Games (March 31, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University baseball team picked up four wins in its first American Midwest Conference games of the season this weekend. The games, scheduled for home, were all played at Harris-Stowe State University on Friday and Saturday, due to poor field conditions at MBU. The wins improve the Spartan overall record to 17-7, 4-0 in the AMC. In Friday play, the Spartans won game one of the double header 5-1. Weather Impacts Friday Games (March 28, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University baseball team's scheduled home games for Friday have been moved to Harris-Stowe State University due to poor field conditions. The new start time for the double header has been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The MBU softball team's double header at Trinity Christian College for Friday has been cancelled due to snow in the Chicago area. Softball Opens AMC Season with Two Victories (March 26, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University softball team opened its American Midwest Conference season with two wins over Hannibal-LaGrange College on Tuesday. The wins improve the Lady Spartan record to 11-7 overall, 2-0 in the AMC. MBU won the first game 8-1 behind pitcher Lindsay Parker. Parker also drove in a two-run homerun. MBU won the second game 8-4. Pitcher Jessica Robinson got the win. Lauren Scovill hit a homerun for the Lady Spartans. MBU to Add Women's Wrestling Program for 2008-2009 (March 24, 2008)

Missouri Baptist University Director of Athletics Thomas Smith has announced that MBU will become one of only a handful of universities in the country to sponsor a women’s wrestling program, beginning in the 2008-2009 school year. Women’s Wrestling is one of the fastest growing sports in both the United States and the world. It was added to the Olympic Games in 2004 and has been fully included in all programs of USA Wrestling, the sport’s national authority. Softball Splits, Baseball Drops Two on Saturday (March 22, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University softball team split its double header against Robert Morris College on Saturday. The Lady Spartans hosted the game at Parkway South High School, as the MBU field was too wet for play. The Lady Spartans lost the first game 3-4. All three MBU runs were scored on a home run by Lindsay Parker. Jessica Robinson picked up the loss. MBU shut out RMC 5-0 in the second game behind Lindsay Parker's pictching. Baseball and Softball Sweep Good Friday Double Headers (March 21, 2008)

In its home opener, the Missouri Baptist University baseball team picked up two wins on Good Friday. The 21st ranked Spartans defeated the College of the Ozarks 10-2 in the first game, and shut out the Bobcats 3-0 in the second. The wins improve MBU's record to 13-5. MBU Almunus Named New Golf Coach (March 18, 2008)

Justin Hoagland, a 1997 graduate of Missouri Baptist University, has been named the new MBU Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach. The position will be Coach Hoagland's first collegiate coaching position. Hoagland, a native of Robinson, Illinois, was the American Midwest Conference Men's Golf Champion in 1996. Coach Hoagland has worked as a teaching golf professional since graduating from MBU in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in Business. He has served as a golf instructor for the Hank Haney Instruction Program and for Golf Headquarters in O'Fallon, Missouri. He has also served as the Director of Instruction at Innsbrook Resort…

MBU Softball Opens Season at .500 in Florida (March 17, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University softball team spent its Spring Break on the road in sunny Ft. Myer, Florida, finally able to take the field this season. The Lady Spartans' first five games of the season were cancelled or postponed due to inclement weather. The Lady Spartans picked up victories over Edinboro University (two wins), Skidmore College, Salem State College, the University of Bridgeport, and Alfred University. Spartan Wrestling Finishes Strong at NAIA Nationals (March 11, 2008)

Three Spartans earned All-American honors at the NAIA national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa this past weekend. Lead by junior Matt Collum (Neuqua Valley High School, Naperville, Ill.) who placed third at 157 lbs., the Spartans placed 16th. The 45 points scored was the most ever posted by Missouri Baptist at the national tournament. Collum, who entered the tournament unranked, finished the weekend 5-1, with four of his wins coming by fall. By doing this the junior won the prestigious Gorrarian award, that is given to the wrestler with the most falls in the least amount of time. The two…

Spartan Basketball Players Earn AMC Honors (March 10, 2008)

Two members of the Missouri Baptist University men's basketball team received American Midwest Conference honors this past weekend. MBU's Brandon Bishop and Bret Wilson each earned all-conference honors. Bishop, a 5'10" sophomore guard from Wright City, Missouri, was named AMC First Team All-Conference. Bishop led the Spartans with 16.4 points per game, and led MBU in assists (3.4) and steals (2.3). Wilson, a 6'5" junior guard from Lee's Summit, Missouri, was named AMC Honorable Mention All-Conference. He led the Spartans in scoring from behind the arc. Lady Spartans Earn All-Conference Honors (March 8, 2008)

American Midwest Conference honors for the 2007-2008 women's basketball season were awarded Saturday afternoon, at the conclusion of the AMC Tournament Championship game. Earning First-Team All-Conference honors for the Missouri Baptist University Lady Spartans were Nikia Henry and Julie Leach. Henry, a 5'2" junior guard from Kansas City, Missouri, led the Lady Spartans in points per game (17.2), assists per game (3.07), and steals per game (1.2). Leach, a 6'0" junior forward from Beaver Dam, Kentucky, averaged 15.6 points per game, and led MBU in rebounds with 9.9 per game, field goal percentage (59.1%), and free-throw percentage (85.3%). Lady Spartan Basketball Season Ends (March 7, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University women's basketball team ended its season Thursday night in a 69-50 loss to McKendree University in semifinal action of the American Midwest Tournament. The Lady Spartans finish the season 14-16 and fourth place in the AMC. The Lady Spartans struggled to control the ball early, as they turned the ball over 17 times in the first half, matching their scoring for the period. Tennis Teams Come up Short Against Quincy (March 2, 2008)

The Missouri Baptist University men's and women's tennis teams both came up short against Quincy University at Principia College on Saturday. The women's squad lost to Quincy 7-2.
