MBU Basketball Teams Split Versus UIS
The Missouri Baptist University basketball teams split in American Midwest Conference action at home on Saturday.
The women’s basketball team secured a fourth place American Midwest Conference finish, when they beat the University of Illinois at Springfield 68-59. The Lady Spartans improve to 13-15 overall and 8-6 in the AMC. MBU’s Miroslava Harcegova led both teams with 14 points. Omega Key scored a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Nikia Henry added 12 points and Julie Leach 13 points for the Lady Spartans.
With the win, the #4 Lady Spartans will host #5 UIS at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 29th in first-round play of the American Midwest Conference Tournament.
The men’s basketball team lost to the University of Illinois at Springfield 79-66 at home on Saturday. This was the second loss the Spartans suffered to the Prairie Stars this week, as they played a re-scheduled contest at UIS on Tuesday. The Spartans drop to 6-23 overall, 4-9 in the AMC. MBU freshman Dane Rawlins led the Spartans with a career high 21 points and 9 rebounds.
The Spartans will play at Harris-Stowe at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, in a game re-scheduled from last Thursday. A win Monday will earn the Spartans a fourth place tie in the AMC, while a lost will drop them to seventh place.
