Lady Spartans Pick up AMC Win at Home, Men Fall to WWU
The Missouri Baptist University women’s basketball team improved to 5-5 in the American Midwest Conference with a 76-63 win over William Woods University at home on Saturday. The Lady Spartans trailed by as much as fourteen in the first half, but cut the lead to five (29-34) before heading into the locker room. A second-half offensive surge by MBU secured a lead and the victory.
"We came out sluggish in the first half, but I liked our intensity and aggresiveness in the second half. That's what it takes to win games in this conference," said MBU Coach Danny Wingate.
The Lady Spartans were led by four players in double figures. Nikia Henry scored 15 and Sommer McCauley 12 for the Lady Spartans. Julie Leach and Omega Key each recorded a double-double for MBU, with Key scoring 13 and grabbing 12 boards and Leach scoring 11 and grabbing 12 boards.
The Missouri Baptist University men’s basketball team lost to William Woods University 77-73 Saturday evening. The Spartans drop to 3-6 in the American Midwest Conference (5-20 overall). The Owls improve their record to 3-7 in the AMC (6-17 overall). Brandon Bishop led the Spartans in scoring with 26 points (6 3-pointers), and Bret Wilson added 20 points.
