Lady Spartans Get AMC Win, Wrestling Falls Short in Dual

The Lady Spartan basketball team improved to 3-2 in the American Midwest Conference and 8-10 overall with a 65-52 win at Williams Baptist College (Walnut Ridge, Ark.) Tuesday night. MBU had a cold hand early trailing 10-2 in the opening minutes. The Lady Spartans eventually began to connect, coming within a point at halftime, but still trailing 27-26. The Lady Spartan offense came alive in the second half, securing the win on 14 for 24 shooting.

Summer McCaughley led MBU and all scorers with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Julie Leach added 14 points and 9 rebounds, and Nikia Henry and Miroslava Harcegova each added 12 points for the Lady Spartans. The Lady Spartans will return home on Saturday, as they play host to the AMC top seed Harris-Stowe at 2:00 p.m. The men's game will follow.

On the mats, the Spartan wrestlers played host to Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, falling just shy in the dual meet 24-26. Victorious for the Spartans were Nick Lobosco at 149 (7-5), Ike Okenwa at 197 (7-5), and Mike Wakim at Heavyweight with a win by fall at 5:53.

The Spartans will hit the mats again on the 31st of January, when they play host to the University of Central Missouri at 7:00 p.m.
