Spartan Wrestling Falls to Central Missouri (January 31, 2008)
The Missouri Baptist University wrestling team was defeated by the University of Central Missouri (NCAA D-II) 35-12 in a dual meet at MBU Thursday night. At 157 lbs., Matt Collum picked up a win by fall (4:30) for the Spartans. Also winning for the Spartans were Nigel Kinworthy (184) winning 2-1, and Nick Lobosco (149) with a 4-2 decision. Earlier this week, the Spartans dropped in the NAIA National Rankings from 14th place to 20th place. They will return to the mats on Saturday at the Missouri Valley College Open.…

Men's Volleyball Starts Season 4-0 (January 27, 2008)
The Spartans opened up their season with four wins at the Lindenwood Tournament this weekend. On Friday, the Spartans defeated Moody Bible Institute 30-13, 30-14, 30-25. They also handled Johnson and Wales College (Colo.) 32-30, 30-25, 30-25. The Spartans had to battle harder to pick up Saturday’s wins. They defeated Cardinal-Stritch University 30-25, 30-32, 30-24, 25-30, 15-10 and Graceland College 31-33, 30-25, 30-24, 30-28. MBU’s Matt Mahoney was named to the all-tournament team.…

Men's Basketball Wins Second in a Row (January 27, 2008)
The MBU men's basketball team won its second game in a row Saturday afternoon, when the Spartans defeated the Harris-Stowe Hornets 62-57 at home. Brandon Bishop led the Spartans with 20 points and six rebounds, and Bret Wilson added 19 points. The Spartans improve to 3-3 in the American Midwest Conference, 5-17 overall. Spartans Get Second AMC Win (January 24, 2008)
The Missouri Baptist University men’s basketball team picked up its second American Midwest Conference win Thursday night, defeating host Williams Baptist College 94-78. The Spartans shot 36 for 55 from the field and 11 for 24 from behind the arc. Five Spartans were in double figures. Bret Wilson led MBU with 25 points, Brandon Bishop added 23, Deon White 14, Dane Rawlins 13, and Geoffrey Grant 10. The win takes the Spartans to 2-3 in the AMC, 4-17 overall. The Lady Spartan basketball team improved to 3-2 in the American Midwest Conference and 8-10 overall with a 65-52 win at Williams Baptist College (Walnut Ridge, Ark.) Tuesday night. MBU had a cold hand early trailing 10-2 in the opening minutes. The Lady Spartans eventually began to connect, coming within a point at halftime, but still trailing 27-26. MBU Basketball Teams Lose to Rival McKendree (January 20, 2008)
The Spartan basketball teams suffered AMC defeat at the hands of the McKendree University Bearcats Saturday afternoon. The women tipped off the action in a 73-66 loss to the Lady Bearcats. The Lady Spartans played McKendree closely throughout the game, but trailed throughout. The Lady Spartans got within five of the Lady Bearcats with less than a minute to play, but a pair of free-throws by McKendree spread the lead to seven, as time wound down. The Missouri Baptist University men’s basketball team lost in American Midwest Conference action Thursday night at William Woods University 88-70. The Spartans drop to 3-16 overall, 1-2 in the AMC. MBU Baseball Alumni to Play in Frontier League (January 17, 2008)
MARION, Ill. – The Southern Illinois Miners have signed third baseman/outfielder Brad Arnett and right handed pitcher Jake McMurran for the 2008 season. Both Arnett and McMurran played their college ball at Missouri Baptist University and spent the summer of 2007 playing for the NBC World Series Champion Havasu Heat. Two of their teammates on the Heat were current Miners Drew Moffit and Nick Starnes. Arnett hit .520 with an .840 slugging percentage to win MVP honors in the NBC World Series. MBU Wrestling Receives 13th Place Ranking (January 16, 2008)
The Spartan wrestling team has moved back into the NAIA National Rankings, settling in at 13th place. To date, seven Spartans have met NAIA national qualifying standards. The Spartans traveled to Pella, Iowa for the Central College Invitational this past weekend. With Iowa being the heartland of amateur wrestling, competition was guaranteed to be tough. With teams representing NCAA Div II and III and several NAIA schools and NJCAA institutions represented, the Spartans faired well. Women's Basketball Escapes with Victory (January 15, 2008)
The Missouri Baptist University women’s basketball team escaped with a 82-78 victory Tuesday night at William Woods University (Fulton, Mo.) The Lady Spartans trailed the Lady Owls much of the second half, but three three-pointers by MBU’s Nikia Henry late in the game proved to provide the spark Missouri Baptist needed to gain the lead. The Men's Volleyball NAIA 2008 Coaches Pre-Season Poll has been released. The MBU men’s volleyball team, who finished in the Final Four at Nationals a year ago, are ranked fourth. The Spartans return several key players from last year’s Final Four team. Ryan Young, a 6’4” senior, will serve as MBU's team captain for the second straight year. Fellow senior Matt Washechek will return to run the offense in his third year as starting setter for MBU. Spartans Lose Double Overtime Thriller to Columbia (January 12, 2008)
The Missouri Baptist University Spartans dropped to 1-1 in American Midwest Conference play (3-15 overall) in a 69-62 double-overtime loss to the Columbia College Cougars on Saturday. MBU led 8-2 early, but the Cougars went on a 16-0 run, and kept the momentum to halftime, taking a 30-14 advantage into the locker room. The Spartans outscored the Cougars 39-23 in the second half, pushing the game into overtime. A three-pointer at the buzzer by MBU's Brandon Bishop forced the game into the second overtime. The Missouri Baptist University men’s basketball team snapped a 14 game losing streak Thursday night, in a 65-61 American Midwest Conference win over Hannibal-LaGrange College. The win was the first for the Spartans since November 3rd, and sets their record at 3-14 (1-0 in the AMC). Hannibal drops to 8-8 (0-1 in the AMC). The Missouri Baptist University women’s basketball team ended its three game losing streak at MBU’s Muncy Gymnasium Thursday night in a 85-60 win over American Midwest Conference opponent Hannibal-LaGrange College. The Missouri Baptist University men’s basketball team extended its losing streak to 14 this weekend, dropping two games at the Tabor College Classic (Hillsboro, Kans.) The Spartans lost to Sterling College Friday night 85-77. Sterling’s Tony Stewart led all scorers with 24 points.
