Five Spartans Place in Midwest Wrestling Open (December 31, 2007)
The Spartan wrestling team traveled to Evanston, Illinois on Saturday to compete in the Midwest Wrestling Open. Five Spartans placed in the tournament. At 125 pounds, Abbas Emamjome finished third. Gerald Harris and Matt Collum were declared Co-Champions at 157, with both meeting NAIA National Tournament qualification standards. At 165, Zach Fears finished fourth. At 184, Jeff Bowman placed second, meeting NAIA National Tournament qualification standards. The Spartans travel to University of Indianapolis for the very tough Midwest Classic Invitational on January 4th and 5th.…

Lady Spartans Can't Hold On at Webster (December 29, 2007)
The Missouri Baptist University Lady Spartans dropped to 5-7 on the season with a loss Saturday afternoon to the Webster University Gorloks. MBU led for most of the game, leading 39-32 at the half. The Lady Spartans couldn’t hold on to their lead in the final few minutes, dropping the game at Webster 67-65. The Lady Spartans drop to 5-7 on the season. MBU Basketball Teams Close out First Semester Competition (December 17, 2007)
The MBU athletic teams closed out the Fall semester of competition December 14th and 15th. The men's basketball team competed in the Bethel College Tournament (Tennessee) and the women's basketball team took their play to sunny Miami. The men's basketball team continued its woes by dropping two at Bethel. They lost to Lambuth College 85-73 Friday night, and lost by a bucket in Saturday's consolation game verse host Bethel 73-70. The Spartans head into the Christmas break a dismal 2-11. They will return to action in the New Year, facing Park University in Kansas City on January 3rd, followed by…

Weekend Sports Review (December 10, 2007)
Men’s Basketball The Spartans dropped to 2-9, losing two close games at Grace College’s Hoops for Hope Tournament this weekend (Warsaw, Ind.). They lost to Cornerstone University 75-84 Friday night. They lost the consolation game to Indiana University-Southeast 62-68 on Saturday. Bret Wilson led the Spartans, averaging 17 points on the weekend, The Spartans will return to action this weekend at the Bethel College Tournament in Tennessee. Men's Basketball vs. Cornerstone to be Webcast Live (December 7, 2007)
Tonight's game between the Missouri Baptist University Spartans (2-6) and the Cornerstone University Golden Eagles (5-7) will be broadcast live on the internet. To listen to the game, click here. MBU's Lukasek Earns NAIA Volleyball All-American Honors (December 7, 2007)
Missouri Baptist University junior, Brittany Lukasek, was recently named to the NAIA All American third team in women’s volleyball. Brittany is a 6’ middle blocker from St. Louis, MO. She graduated high school from Bishop DuBourg and is studying Sports Medicine at MBU. Lukasek led the American Midwest Conference in hitting with 3.7 attack kills per game for a .437 attack kill percentage (4th in the NAIA for kill percentage). She also led the AMC in blocks, averaging 1.3 blocks per game. She led the Spartans to a 25-13 record, including a second place finish in the American Midwest Conference.…

Spartan Wrestlers Lose to #2 McKendree (December 5, 2007)
The #18-ranked Spartan Wrestling team suffered their second dual meet loss of the season at home against the NAIA #2 –ranked Bearcats of McKendree University Wednesday night. The Spartans faired well throughout the contest but were unable to solidify a win and fell to the Bearcats by a score of 36-12. MBU Senior Michael Aitch (Kirkwood, Mo.) recorded a win, in the opening contest of the night (125-pound weight class), over McKendree’s A.J. Ciccarelli by way of pinfall in the second period. Nikia Henry Named AMC Player of the Week (December 5, 2007)
Nikia Henry, the starting point guard for the Lady Spartan basketball team, has been named the first American Midwest Conference Player of the Week for the 2007-2008 season. Henry, a junior transfer from State Fair Community College (Sedalia, Mo.), earned the honor for her efforts in the Lady Spartans losses to Park University and Southwest Baptist University. Henry averaged 19.5 points, 3.5 assists and 3 steals. She shot 14-of-30 from the field, including 7-of-16 from behind the arc.
