MBU Athletics Inducts 2007 Hall of Fame Class

The Missouri Baptist University Department of Athletics held its fifth annual Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday evening, November 9th, in the midst of the week's Homecoming festivities. Over 150 people were in attendance as the 2007 Hall of Fame class was inducted and current and past All-Americans and NAIA Champions of Character were honored. MBU Director of Athletics Thomas Smith inducted three members into the Hall of Fame: Mr. Dan Bryant, Mr. Julio Campos and Mr. Andy Carter.

Dan Bryant ran for the MBU cross country and track and field teams from 1983-1986. Bryant was named a NAIA All-American three times for cross country and several times for track and field. He was also a two-time American Midwest Conference and District Cross Country Champion. He was a member of the 1984 cross country team that took fourth place at the NAIA National Meet.

Julio Campos was a member of the Spartan baseball team from 1998-2000, playing under Andy Carter his first season. In 1999, he was named a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) First Team All-American. He was NAIA Honorable Mention All-American in 2000. After playing at MBU, Campos spent two years as a member of the Phillies organization. His professional career was cut short due to repeated surgeries. Julio currently is an instructor at the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School.

Andy Carter started his career at MBU as an All-Conference player for the baseball team from 1984-1986. In 1987, Carter joined the staff as an Assistant Baseball Coach and took over the program as the Head Coach in 1991. During his nine years as Head Coach, Carter’s players and teams earned numerous conference and national honors. In 1998, Carter took over as the Athletic Director at MBU and served in that capacity until 2002. Carter has served as the Director of Athletics and Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics at NCAA Division II Newberry College (S.C.) since his departure from MBU.

At the conclusion of the program, Smith presented John Yehling, Head Men's and Women's Volleyball Coach, and Kenny Graser, Assistant Men's Baseball Coach, with the Athletic Director's Head Coach of the Year and Assistant Coach of the Year Awards respecitively.
