Men's Basketball Drops Home Opener

The MBU men’s basketball team came up short 72-68 Tuesday night when it played host to Park University (ranked pre-season NAIA #16). The Pirates from Park U led 33-23 heading into half-time and never relinquished the lead. The Spartans came within striking distance late in the second half, off of a steal from MBU’s Bret Wilson that converted into two points for the Spartans. Back to back three pointers with just minutes remaining by MBU’s Brandon Bishop and MBU’s Bret Wilson left the Spartans down by just three points with 45 seconds to play in the game. The Spartans forced one last turnover down just three points, but MBU’s Brandon Bishop was charged with an offensive foul with just 30 second to play on the game clock. The Pirates extended their lead to the final margin in the remaining seconds, when the Spartans were forced to foul. The loss is MBU’s fifth straight and drops the team to 2-5 on the year.

Brandon Bishop led the Spartans in scoring with 19, followed by Bret Wilson with 18. The Spartans forced 18 turnovers, but were outrebounded 11. Park’s Jon Meriweather led all scorers with 26 points. MBU is next in action when they play at University of the Ozarks on November 30th.
