Men's Basketball Starts Season 2-0

The men's basketball team opened their season 2-0 over the weekend at the Wayland Baptist Classic (Plano, Texas). The Spartans got their first victory over Lubbock Christian 83-78 Friday night. After trailing six points at halftime (40-34), the Spartans used a hot hand to shoot 8-11 from three-point range in the second half to pull off the victory. Four Spartans were in double-figure scoring. Brett Wilson led the Spartans with 26 points, while Jason Fry added 22, Brandon Bishop added 19, and Jake Hackerson scored 12.

In Saturday's game, the Spartans again trailed at halftime to host Wayland Baptist 41-34. MBU senior Jason Fry helped spark the Spartans' second half comeback, shooting 6-6 from the foul line, including two clutch free throws as the clock wound down. Fry finished the contest with 27 points, shooting 5-7 from behind the arc. Brett Wilson and Jake Hackerson also scored in double digits for the Spartans, with 13 points each.

The MBU Lady Spartans also opened their season on the road this weekend. They lost their game to Grace College (Winona Lake, Indiana) 81-65.
