Lady Spartans Lose on the Road (November 29, 2007)

The Missouri Baptist University women's basketball team dropped to 3-4 on the season with a loss Thursday night at Park University (Parkville, Mo.) The Lady Spartans trailed the Pirates 36-26 at the half. They pulled within three with less than a minute on the clock, but a missed rebound on the defensive end forced MBU to foul, widening the gap to four, The final score was 74-70. Rebounding proved to be the Achilles heel for MBU. Park outrebounded MBU 54-29, grabbing 34 offensive boards compared to MBU's dismal nine. Park's Ashley Birch led all scorers with 28 points. MBU Baseball Player Named NAIA Preseason All-American (November 29, 2007)

Brandon Patek, an outfielder on the Spartan baseball squad, has been named to the NAIA 2008 Preseason All-America team. Patek, a senior from Festus, batted .427, belted 14 home runs and drove in 53 runs in 2007 (his junior season), earning him a place on the 2007 NAIA All-America second team. Patek is one of only 15 players in the nation to be named to the Pre-Season All-America team. The Spartans won the American Midwest Conference Regular Season and Post-Season Tournament in 2007, and look to advance even further in 2008. They will open the 2008 season on February 15th…

Men's Basketball Drops Home Opener (November 27, 2007)

The MBU men’s basketball team came up short 72-68 Tuesday night when it played host to Park University (ranked pre-season NAIA #16). The Pirates from Park U led 33-23 heading into half-time and never relinquished the lead. The Spartans came within striking distance late in the second half, off of a steal from MBU’s Bret Wilson that converted into two points for the Spartans. Back to back three pointers with just minutes remaining by MBU’s Brandon Bishop and MBU’s Bret Wilson left the Spartans down by just three points with 45 seconds to play in the game. MBU's Meagan Hudson is All-American (November 20, 2007)

MBU sophomore cross country runner Meagan Hudson ran for an MBU first at Saturday's NAIA Cross Country National Championship. The sophomore finished 24th, earning All-American honors. She completed the 5k race with a time of 18:19. Hudson is the first female in the history of the MBU women's cross country program to earn All-American honors. The honor is the third for Hudson this year. She becomes the first athlete in MBU history to be named an All-American in three sports during one calendar year. Six Wrestlers Place at Coe College Invitational (November 19, 2007)

The Spartan Wrestling team competed in the Coe College invitational this past Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and returned with three NAIA National Qualifiers and six placers. In the 125-pound weight class, senior Michael Aitch recorded four wins and defeated MBU freshman Abbas Emamjome to take home third place. This allowed him to meet the national qualification standards set forth by the NAIA. By doing so, Aitch has qualified three out of his four years at MBU. Emamjome fell one win away from also meeting qualification standards, but still managed to put on a good performance and record three wins.…

MBU Basketball Teams Have Rough Weekend (November 19, 2007)

The men's and women's basketball teams were three states away this past weekend, but their results were the same. Both teams came home from their classics empty handed. The women's basketball team traveled to Canton, Ohio for a classic hosted by Malone College. The Lady Spartans had a chance to win each of its games, but ended up losing to host Malone 72-69 on Friday and Roberts Wesleyan University (New York) 70-66. Women's Volleyball Concludes Season (November 14, 2007)

The MBU women's volleyball team concluded its season Tuesday night in first-round NAIA Region V action.j The Lady Spartans fought hard and came within two points of taking the match, but opponent Evangel University came out on top 25-30, 30-27, 25-30, 31-29, 15-13. The Lady Spartans finished their season 25-13 overall, 11-3 in the AMC. They finished second place in the American Midwest Conference Regular Season and Post-Season Tournament. MBU Athletics Inducts 2007 Hall of Fame Class (November 10, 2007)

The Missouri Baptist University Department of Athletics held its fifth annual Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday evening, November 9th, in the midst of the week's Homecoming festivities. Over 150 people were in attendance as the 2007 Hall of Fame class was inducted and current and past All-Americans and NAIA Champions of Character were honored. MBU Director of Athletics Thomas Smith inducted three members into the Hall of Fame: Mr. Dan Bryant, Mr. Julio Campos and Mr. Andy Carter. Dan Bryant ran for the MBU cross country and track and field teams from 1983-1986. Bryant was named a NAIA All-American…

Women's Basketball Gets Homecoming Victory (November 10, 2007)

The Missouri Baptist University Lady Spartan Basketball improved to 1-1 with a 78-72 Homecoming victory over William Penn University (Oskaloosa, Iowa). The MBU Lady Spartans took a 40-37 lead into the half and relinquished the lead just once in the second half before pulling away for the win. April Redus led the MBU attack with 25 points (8-15 from the floor). Redus was followed by Omega Key’s 16 points and 11 rebounds and Nikia Henry’s 13 points. 2007 Spartan Hall of Fame Class Inducted (November 10, 2007)

Missouri Baptist University Athletics hosted the fifth annual Hall of Fame Banquet on November 9th in the W.L. Muncy Gymnasium. With aproximately 150 guests present, the ceremony honored 2006-2007 All-Americans, NAIA Champions of Character Award winners and the 2006 NAIA National Volleyball Player of the Year Ana Mercado. Women's Volleyball Set to Play in AMC Title Match (November 9, 2007)

The Lady spartans swept McKendree University Thursday night 30-18, 30-25, 30-24 to advance to the championship match of the American Midwest Conference Tournament. The Lady Spartans (25-11) will face the top-seeded Cougars of Columbia College. The Cougars defeated the University of Illinois at Springfield in their semi-final match Thursday night to advance. This will mark the third consecutive year that Columbia and Missouri Baptist will meet for the AMC Volleyball Tournament title. The teams have split the previous two championship contests. Women's Volleyball Advances to Semi-Final of AMC Tournament (November 7, 2007)

The MBU women's volleyball team ended Hannibal-LaGrange College's post-season hopes Tuesday night, defeating the Trojans 30-22, 30-21, 30-21. The Lady Spartans advance to semi-final play in the American Midwest Conference Tournament. They will host McKendree University in Thursday night at 7:00 PM in Muncy Gymnasium. MBU beat McKendree in both regular season matches, the first in four games and the second in three. A victory on Thursday will most likely send the Lady Spartans to top seeded Columbia College on Saturday for the championship match. Men's Basketball Starts Season 2-0 (November 4, 2007)

The men's basketball team opened their season 2-0 over the weekend at the Wayland Baptist Classic (Plano, Texas). The Spartans got their first victory over Lubbock Christian 83-78 Friday night. After trailing six points at halftime (40-34), the Spartans used a hot hand to shoot 8-11 from three-point range in the second half to pull off the victory. Four Spartans were in double-figure scoring. Brett Wilson led the Spartans with 26 points, while Jason Fry added 22, Brandon Bishop added 19, and Jake Hackerson scored 12. In Saturday's game, the Spartans again trailed at halftime to host Wayland Baptist 41-34.…

Three Spartan Runners Qualify for National Meet (November 4, 2007)

The MBU men's cross country team finished in third place at the NAIA Region V Meet on Saturday. The Spartans finished with 84 points behind MidAmerica Nazarene (78) and meet champion Lindenwood (28). Two MBU athletes qualified for the NAIA National Meet: Kenneth Kibii and Vincent Morogah. In women's cross country action, MBU's Meagan Hudson took second place at the NAIA Region V Meet, running a personal best time of 18:18. Her finish qualifed Hudson for the NAIA National Meet. Men's Soccer Season Comes to a Close (November 1, 2007)

The men's soccer season came to an end Thursday night, as the Spartans lost to the University of Illinois-Springfield 2-0 in the American Midwest Conference Region Play-In Tournament. MBU finishes the season 10-10 overall, 4-3 in the AMC, finishing 5th in the AMC. After the game, All-Conference honors were presented.
