Men's Soccer Advances in Post-Season Play (October 30, 2007)

The Missouri Baptist University men's soccer team avenged an earlier season loss to Columbia College in exciting fashion Tuesday night. The Spartans and Cougars ended regulation tied at 3-3. At the end of the extra period, the score remain tied. The decision came down to penalty kicks, with MBU triumphing 3-1. The Spartans will host the University of Illinois-Springfield on Thursday in the Championship game of the American Midwest Conference Region Play-In Tournament. The winner will advance to the NAIA Region V Play-In Tournament, which begins on November 3rd. McKendree College, the AMC Regular Season Champions, received an automatic berth…

Wrestling Spartans Look Impressive in Season Opener (October 29, 2007)

The Missouri Baptist Wrestling Spartans kicked off the 2007-2008 campaign with an impressive showing at the Lindenwood Open. The tournament was held on Saturday, October 27th, on the campus of cross-town rival Lindenwood University. Although there were no team scores kept, the Spartans looked like a cohesive unit faring quite well as a whole. Senior and returning All-American, Nigel Kinworthy, was crowned the champion of the 184-pound weight class by taking home first place. Spartan Wrestling Looks to Start and Finish 07-08 Season Strong (October 25, 2007)

Following a below par finish to the 2006-2007 wrestling season, the Spartans look to silence their critics this upcoming season with a barrage of new and returning wrestlers. Head Coach Brian Jackson, who is entering into his sixth year with Missouri Baptist, fourth as Head Coach, is very optimistic on the upcoming season. “Last year's season ended very disappointing for the Spartan Wrestling Team. Women's Volleyball Defeats UMSL in Three (October 25, 2007)

The Lady Spartans made quick work of their NCAA Division II opponent Wednesday night, beating the University of Missouri-St. Louis 30-29, 30-16, 30-21. The Lady Spartans were led by Middle Hitter Brittany Lukasek's 16 kills and five blocks. Randi Tyler and Alex Fox each added 11 kills apiece, with Heather Rynd dishing out 45 assists and two service aces. Libero Tracey Abell chipped in 28 digs for MBU. On Wednesday, Lukasek was named American Midwest Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season, and Abell was named the AMC Libero of the Week for the fourth time…

Men's Cross Country Falls Shy of AMC Title (October 24, 2007)

The MBU men's cross country team placed second at Saturday's American Midwest Conference Meet, finishing just four points behind meet champion William Woods University. The Spartans, who had won the meet the past three years, were without team leader Denis-Bull Olinga, who is out with a hamstring injury. The Spartans were paced by Vincent Morogah, who won the 8k race with a time of 26:40. (Morogah was also last week's AMC Runner of the Week.) 2007 Spartan Hall of Fame Class Announced (October 17, 2007)

The Missouri Baptist University Department of Athletics has announced its 2007 Spartan Hall of Fame Class. Inductees include Andy Carter, Julio Campos and Dan Bryant. Andy Carter started his career at MBU as an All-Conference player for the baseball team from 1984-1986. In 1987, Carter joined the staff as an Assistant Baseball Coach and took over the program as the Head Coach in 1991. During his nine years as Head Coach, Carter’s players and teams earned numerous conference and national honors. In 1998, Carter took over as the Athletic Director at MBU and served in that capacity until 2002. Carter…

Men's Soccer Wins Third Straight (October 13, 2007)

After four weeks of six straight losses, the Missouri Baptist University men’s soccer team has found its second wind, having won three straight in the past week. The third was a 3-1 victory over AMC foe Williams Baptist College (Walnut Ridge, Ark.) on Saturday. The win takes the Spartans to 9-8 overall, 4-2 in the AMC. Brock Chatman scored two of MBU's goals, while Robert Bradley added the third. Assists came from Jacob Conrad, Ikenna Emegano and Ian Henry. Soccer Teams Take Two at HSSU (October 12, 2007)

The Missouri Baptist University men's and women's soccer teams each notched one in the win column on Friday when they traveled to American Midwest Conference opponent Harris-Stowe State University (St. Louis). The Lady Spartans started the afternoon off with a 3-1 victory over the Lady Hornets. Taylor Hay, Amanda Renaud and Florence Kahithe scored for MBU. Morogah Earns AMC Weekly Honor, Volleyball Loses to Columbia (October 11, 2007)

MBU cross country runner Vincent Morogah has been honored as the American Midwest Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for Oct. 10. Morogah, a senior from Arua, Uganda, placed 12th out of 242 runners that competed at the Border Wars Cross Country Championship in Edwardsville, Ill. Running on a warm and humid day, Morogah posted a time of 26:46 on an eight-kilometer course. Thanks in part to Morogah's efforts, Missouri Baptist took 14th in the team standings out of 27 teams at the Border Wars. This is Morogah's first AMC Runner of the Week award in 2007. Volleyball-…

Men's Soccer Snaps Six Game Losing Skid (October 10, 2007)

The MBU men's soccer team got its first win in four weeks on Tuesday night. The Spartans picked up a 2-1 American Midwest Conference victory over the University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars. Sophomore Saul Bush scored both MBU goals, with assists coming from Brock Chatman and Nick Yuede. The win puts the Spartans at 7-8 overall, 2-2 in the AMC. Women's Soccer Shuts Out Freed Hardeman (October 9, 2007)

The Lady Spartans earned their first win for the month of October in convincing fashion Tuesday night. MBU shut out Freed Hardeman University 4-0. Meagan Roberts got the shutout for MBUT. Taylor Hay and Florence Kahithe each scored two goals apiece, and assists came from Breanne Henrichs, Amy Kelly, Angie Casseli and Taylor Hay. MBU Weekend Athletic Results (October 6, 2007)

Volleyball- The Lady Spartans' 11 game win streak came to a halt Saturday morning, when they lost to NAIA Region V opponent Baker University (30-25, 30-26, 30-27). MBU's offensive attack came up cold, with a hitting percentage of only .093. The Lady Spartans did manage to win three of their four matches at the Lindenwood Invitational. They defeated NAIA Region V opponents Evangel University (30-13, 30-21, 26-30, 30-22) and Benedictine College (27-30, 33-31, 30-26, 30-23) on Friday, and defeated Culver-Stockton College (30-27, 30-28, 30-20) on Saturday. MBU Volleyball Digs up $1,700 in Win Over McKendree (October 4, 2007)

The MBU women's volleyball team took sole possession of second place in the American Midwest Conference Wednesday night, when they defeated AMC rival McKendree University in an exciting four game match 30-16, 30-32, 30-20, 30-25. The match featured both teams wearing pink ribbons and the MBU girls wearing pink socks, as well as both coaching staffs donning pink, in MBU's "Dig for the Cure" night. In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Lady Spartans raised over $1,700 for the Komen for the Cure Foundation.
