Soccer Woes Continue at Graceland (September 29, 2007)
The Missouri Baptist University men's soccer team continued its losing streak Saturday, losing to Graceland University (Lamoni, Iowa) 6-0. Not only was the loss the team's fourth in a row. It was the fourth straight scoreless game for the Spartans. First year Head Coach Deno Merrick's team started the season 3-0, but has since struggled to find the goal, dropping to 6-6 overall, 1-1 in the American Midwest Conference. The women's soccer team, which has experienced ups and downs this season, experienced a "down" on Saturday as well, losing to Graceland 4-1. Sophomore Danielle Lizenby scored the Lady Spartans only…

Lady Spartans Win Streak Extended to Eight (September 28, 2007)
The MBU women's volleyball team won its eighth match in a row in a see-saw battle over the University of Illinois at Springfield Friday night. The Lady Spartans defeated the Prairie Stars in five games: 30-26, 27-30, 32-30, 18-30, 15-11. MBU was led once again by the play of middle blocker Brittany Lukasek, who finished with 15 kills and three solo blocks on the night. Lisa Forchee and Alex Fox added 15 kills and 10 kills respectively, while libero Tracey Abell came up with 26 digs, and Heather Rynd handed out 42 assists. The win improves the Lady Spartans to…

Men's Soccer Loses Third Straight, Women Get First AMC Win (September 26, 2007)
The Missouri Baptist University men's and women's soccer teams faced Hannibal-LaGrange College Wednesday night, their second conference opponent of the season. The Lady Spartans won their second in three games, defeating the Lady Trojans 2-0. Sophomore Taylor Hay scored both MBU goals. Meagan Roberts and Stefanie Ryan were each awarded an assist. MBU Volleyball's Abell Named Libero of the Week (September 26, 2007)
For the second time already this season, MBU junior Tracey Abell has been named the American Midwest Conference Libero of the Week. In addition, Abell has been named the NAIA Region V Libero of the Week. The honor comes after a week in which the Lady Spartans went 5-0, improving their record to 8-7 (2-1 in the AMC). Abell's play helped lead the Spartans to those victories. She recorded 127 digs and 11 service aces. She received 130 serves with only six errors, passing a percentage of .954. MBU Volleyball to Host "Dig for the Cure" Match (September 25, 2007)
The Missouri Baptist University women’s volleyball team will be digging for more than a win over McKendree University on October third. They will be digging for a cure. The Lady Spartans are participating in a “Dig for the Cure” night to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The MBU women’s volleyball program is securing pledges for each dig they record during their October third match. Donations will also be accepted at the gate. In addition to raising funds, MBU athletics will pass out pink ribbons, key chains and breast self-exam cards to spectators, courtesy of the Komen Foundation.…

Volleyball Wins Four in Chicago (September 22, 2007)
The women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to six this weekend, winning all four matches at a tournament hosted by Trinity Christian College (Chicago). The Lady Spartans knocked off Trinity International University (30-20, 30-27, 30-16), host TCC (30-21, 32-30, 30-23), Bethel College (Ind.) (31-29,26-30, 30-28, 30-22, and Graceland University (30-28, 30-17, 30-22). The wins lift the Lady Spartans over .500 with a record of 8-7 (2-1 in the AMC). Volleyball Gets AMC Win at Home (September 20, 2007)
The MBU women's volleyball team made quick work of beating Harris-Stowe Wednesday night. The Lady Spartans won in three games (30-9, 30-21, 30-16). With the win, MBU improves to 4-7 overall, 2-1 in the American Midwest Spartans. The Lady Spartans will try to rise above .500 this weekend at the Trinity Christian College Tournament in Chicago. The Missouri Baptist University soccer program split Tuesday night's contests versus American Midwest Conference opponent William Woods University. The Missouri Baptist University women's volleyball team won its first home match of the season Friday night versus American Midwest Conference opponent William Woods University. The Lady Spartans were in control the whole match, winning in three games (30-28, 30-25, 30-24). Brittany Lukasek led the Lady Spartans with 14 kills. Men's Cross Country Receives Top Ten Ranking (September 13, 2007)
The Missouri Baptist University men’s cross country team has been ranked 9th nationally by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. This is the first official ranking of the 2007 season. The Spartans made the largest jump of any team from the pre-season ranking, for which they were not ranked and received no votes. The Spartans strong performance in the first two meets earned their ranking. Men's Soccer Upsets Rival Lindenwood University (September 11, 2007)
The Missouri Baptist University men's soccer team scored a big upset over NAIA Region V rival Lindenwood University Tuesday night. The Lindenwood Lions were ranked 19th in the NAIA national ratings as of last Wednesday. The Spartans shut out the Lions 2-0 at the Chesterfield Athletic Complex. The damage was done in the first half, with both MBU goals scored by junior Brock Chatman. Assists were awarded to sophomore Nyron Orr and junior John Araiza. MBU's Hudson & Olinga Earn AMC Cross Country Honors (September 5, 2007)
Missouri Baptist University claimed both American Midwest Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for the first week of the 2007 season. MBU senior Denis-Bull Olinga won the honor for the men, while sophomore Meagan Hudson claimed the honor on the women's side. Both athletes received the honor based on their performances at last Saturday's Early Bird Meet hosted by Washington University (St. Louis). Hudson finished 12th in a field of 118 runners. On Tuesday night, the men's and women's soccer teams hosted a double header for the third time in five days. Both squads were victorious for the third time in a row, beating the Eagles of Central Methodist University (Fayette, Mo.).
