Friday Night Features Triple Victory for MBU Sports (August 31, 2007)
August 31, 2007 - Friday night was a good night for MBU Athletics, as men's soccer, women's soccer, and women's volleyball each notched a win. In its first game of the season, the men's soccer team defeated Missouri Valley College 1-0. MBU sophomore Nyron Orr scored the lone goal of the game five minutes into the first period. Assists were awarded to Brock Chatman and Saul Bush. The win marks the first for Deno Merrick as MBU's Head Men's Soccer Coach. "Missouri Valley is traditionally a tough team," said Coach Merrick. Men's Soccer Hosts Season Opener Friday (August 29, 2007)
August 29, 2007 - The MBU Men's Soccer Team will open its season this Friday at 7:00 pm versus the Missouri Valley College Vikings (1-0). MBU will host the game at the Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park in Fenton. MBU's 2006 squad was ranked as high as 18th in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) and finished third in the American Midwest Conference with an overall record of 11-5-2 and an AMC record of 5-2-0. Women's Soccer Drops Two in Ohio (August 25, 2007)
Columbus, Ohio – The Missouri Baptist University women’s soccer team lost two games this weekend at the Panther Classic, hosted by Ohio Dominican University (Columbus, Ohio). The Spartans start the season 0-2 under first year Head Coach Deno Merrick. On Friday afternoon, Roberts Wesleyan College (N.Y.) defeated MBU by a count of 2-1. Laura Willit netted the game’s first goal for the RWC Raiders at 14:15. Ten seconds later, Amy Kelly answered for the Spartans at 14:25. The game remained tied until the 62nd minute of the second stanza, when RWC’s Willit scored her second goal of the match. That…

Spartan Baseball Players Members of NBC World Series Champion Team (August 22, 2007)
Nine members of the Missouri Baptist University baseball family were crowned National Baseball Congress World Series Champions on August 19th in Wichita, Kansas. They were members of the Havasu Heat. The Heat defeated the Hays Larks (Kansas) 14-2. The victory completed a six game run in the World Series. It was the final victory in a summer which produced an overall record of 48-2. Brad Arnett, an all-American third baseman for MBU, was named Tournament Most Valuable Player. MBU Welcomes New Athletes to Campus (August 17, 2007)
Freshman and Transfer Athletes were among hundreds of students to be welcomed to Missouri Baptist University on Friday, as a part of MBU's "Welcome Weekend". Fall sports teams began practice the first of August, but Friday marked the beginning of official school festivities. Students moved into dorms, received information from clubs and organizations at a Welcome Fair, attended orientation, ate a Western-themed barbecue, had an ice cream social with MBU President Alton Lacey, and capped off the night with Open-Mic at MBU's Coffee Shop, "The Perk". MBU Athletic Department Annual Staff Retreat (August 14, 2007)
The Missouri Baptist University Athletic Department conducted its annual staff retreat on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Each year, the staff retreat allows members of the Athletic Department re-focus on the mission of the department, to evaluate the past year, and to set goals for the upcoming year. The retreat was led by Director of Athletics Tom Smith. Guest speakers included MBU Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Keith Ross, MBU Director of Admissions Terry-Dale Cruse, and Pastor Doug Hon of New Covenant Church in North St. Louis County. MBU Names New Men's Lacrosse Coach (August 9, 2007)
Missouri Baptist University Director of Athletics Thomas Smith has announced the hiring of Andrew Joly as the new Head Men's Lacrosse Coach. Coach Joly joins the staff at MBU after having coached at the high school level for the past four years. Coach Joly's most recent assignment was with DeSmet Jesuit High School, a close neighbor to the MBU campus. "I am excited about the enthusiasm that Coach Joly brings to this position," said Mr. Smith. "I am confident that he can help build the MBU Men's Lacrosse Team into a competive program." MBU Volleyball Team Begins Preparing for 2007 Season (August 6, 2007)
The MBU Lady Spartan volleyball team officially began pre-season practice this Monday inside a sweltering W.L. Muncey Gymnasium. The Lady Spartans will be practicing twice daily for the next two weeks. Their first match will be Friday, August 31st at a tournament hosted by American Midwest Conference rival Columbia College. The Lady Spartans are coming off a very successful 2006 campaign. It was a season that culminated with the Lady Spartans appearing in the Elite Eight at the NAIA National Volleyball Tournament. Meredith Dill Named as New Head Athletic Trainer (August 1, 2007)
Missouri Baptist University Director of Athletics Thomas Smith announced that Meredith Dill has been named the new Head Athletic Trainer. Meredith joined the MBU Athletic Department staff in 2006 as the Assistant Athletic Trainer. She will now fill the spot vacated by previous Head Athletic Trainer, Ben McNair. Ben has joined the Athletic Training staff at NCAA Division I Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Prior to arriving at MBU, Meredith served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Washington University in St. Louis (NCAA Division III).
