MBU Baseball Advances to Region V Tourney with AMC Tournament Championship Win
The Spartan Baseball Team concluded their AMC run as American Midwest Conference Post Season Champions. MBU did so as they defeated William Woods University by a score of 4-1 in the second game of the AMC Championship Series hosted at Missouri Baptist University. MBU fell to the Owls of WWU 6-5 in nine innings in game one. With a game two win, MBU receives an automatic bid to next week’s NAIA Region V Tournament in St. Charles, MO. In addition to their post season title, MBU also won the AMC Regular Season Title.
After the game, MBU had several 2007 All-Conference recipients. MBU’s AMC First-Team honorees included; Brad Arnett, Matt Murray, Brandon Patek, Angel Samuel, and Nathan Sisneros. MBU junior Matt Murray (RHP from Ballwin, MO) was named the AMC Pitcher of the Year and MBU junior Brandon Patek (OF from Festus, MO) was named the AMC Co-Newcomer of the Year. In his eighth season at MBU, Skipper Eddie Uschold (300-169 overall record at MBU) was named the AMC Co-Coach of the Year. Uschold guided his Spartan squad to a 34-17 overall record and a 12-6 AMC mark. MBU’s Scott Talbert and Angel Samuel were named to the AMC All-Defensive Team. MBU also named 10 individuals to the AMC Academic All-Conference Team.
