Women's Basketball Concludes 2006-2007 Campaign, Parsons Named Freshman of the Year
The Lady Spartans concluded their season with an 85-78 loss in the first round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament. MBU finished the 2006-2007 campaign with a 13-18 overall record and a dismal 4-10 AMC mark. The Lady Spartans lost three starters in the course of the season due to injuries including seniors Tara Emily and three time AMC selection, Angela Cerrito. The Lady Spartans headed into conference play with a 9-5 overall record, but never regrouped.
The Lady Spartans, did however, find solid play from freshman Aubrey Parsons who was named the 2006-2007 AMC Freshman of the Year. Parsons, a 5-7 guard from Sterling, Ill., collected 14 points per game on the year, which increased to 19 points per contest in AMC play. Parsons had two outings of 35 points or better in league games in her rookie season (36 points in a win versus McKendree College and 39 points in a four point loss to Columbia College). She shot 35.4 percent from the field with 50 three-point field goals, and was a 70-percent shooter from the foul line. Parsons and junior, April Redus, were named to the AMC Honorable Mention Team.
MBU’s Anna Brisso, Megan Brown, Brooke Hofmeister, Erin McDermott, Lyssa Mulvihill, Aubrey Parsons, April Redus, Tiffany Siess and Nicole Thompson were named to the 2006-2007 American Midwest Conference Academic All-Conference Team.
