Men's Basketball Fends off Pesky HLG (February 28, 2007)

As they say in the NCAA Tournament “Survive and Advance”. That’s what the Spartans of Missouri Baptist University did when they defeated Hannibal LaGrange College in the first round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament 75-72. With the win, the Spartans (14-13) will travel to the University of Illinois Springfield on March 2nd for round two of tournament play. UIS boasts of the number one seed in conference action and MBU holds the number four seed with a conference record of 6-6. Men's Basketball Will Host HLG in Round One of AMC Tourney (February 27, 2007)

The Spartans of Missouri Baptist University drew the number four seed in the upcoming American Midwest Conference Tournament. The Spartans, with a 13-13 overall record (6-6 in AMC play) will host the number five seed, Hannibal LaGrange College (11-16, 5-7) Wednesday, February 28th at 7:00 pm. A win will send the Spartans one step closer to the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City. However, MBU would have to go through the number one seed, University of Illinois Springfield. MBU Athletics is Proud to Sponsor "Noah's Night" (February 17, 2007)

In response to the National Coaches vs. Cancer campaign, the Missouri Baptist University Men’s Basketball team and MBU Athletics honored Noah Donahoo for his fight against cancer at halftime of the men’s varsity basketball game versus Williams Baptist College on February 17th. Noah got a rousing ovation from the crowd at MBU. The Williams Baptist team started the standing ovation and made their way to center court for a picture with young Noah. MBU Director of Athletics, Thomas Smith, presented the Donahoo family with a $1,000 check to help with costs incurred during Noah’s treatment. The money was raised on…

Spartan Track Roll to Victory in Indiana (February 12, 2007)

The MBU Men’s Track and Field team won the DePauw Indoor Invitational. In a field of over 20 teams, the Spartans walked away with three event wins and numerous national qualifying times. The men’s distance medley relay of Vincent Morogah, Gentell Sykes, Anthony Freeman, and Steve Bender started the day off right with a win in a national qualifying time of 10:31.36. Sykes then turned around and won the 55 meter hurdles in 7.67. Kenneth Kibii continued the fireworks when he won the 1000 meter run tying the meet record at 2:32.79. Wrestling Hosts First Open of the Year (February 10, 2007)

The Missouri Baptist University Wrestling Team faired well at the MBU Open Wrestling Tournament. The Spartans were able to have six more wrestlers meet national qualification standards. Taking championships were Michael Aitch at 125, Josh Bonomo at 133, Nicholas Lobosco 141, Gerald Harris 157, and Ike Okenwa 197. Joe Johnson was second at heavyweight. Five of these wrestlers hail from the Show-Me State (MO) with Josh Bonomo via Pennsylvania. The MBU Spartan Wrestling Team has had a total of 11 wrestlers qualify for the national tournament, the most in the programs history. The Spartans will next compete at the Eastern…
