Wrestling Qualifies Two More Wrestlers For Nationals

The Missouri Baptist University Men’s Wrestling Team traveled to the University of Central Missouri to compete in the Roger Denker Open this past Saturday . Perennial NCAA Division I powerhouses Oklahoma University and University of Missouri were present as was 2-time NAIA National Champion and host team Lindenwood University. The Spartans faired well with four wrestlers placing in the top six of their respected weight class.

Placing third in their respected weight classes were sophomore Nathaniel Troupe (149 lbs. class) of Kana, Idaho, and Nigel Kinworthy (184) of St. Charles, Missouri. Troupe recorded 3 straight wins before dropping to the wrestle back rounds where he recorded two additional wins in route to a convincing 18-7 victory over Central Missouri’s Will Forrest to secure his third place finish. Kinworthy lost his first match to Brian Judd of Lindenwood by a narrow margin and regrouped to record four straight wins, including an 8-3 re-match victory over Lindenwood’s Judd for a third place finish. By finishing in the top four, both Troupe and Kinworthy met the national qualifications standards. Also placing, were senior Jared Bonnell (Farmington, MO) at 285 and freshman Zorian Price (St. Louis, MO) at 165.

Up next for the Spartans is their last home dual meet of the season. They will take on NAIA power Missouri Valley College on Wednesday, January 24th at 7 PM.
