Track & Field Opens Season at UCM Invite
The Missouri Baptist Track & Field squad traveled to the University of Central Missouri Friday night to compete in the Central Missouri Invitational. The Spartans walked away with 10 event wins on the night. Leading the charge for MBU was Gentell Sykes. Sykes won the 60 meter hurdles (8.18) and the 200 meter dash (22.65) in National qualifying performances along with running a leg on the winning distance medley relay. Steve Bender and Anthony Freeman earned event wins and National qualifying performances in the mile (4:23.99) and the 600 yard dash in (1:14.40) along with joining Sykes and Kenneth Kibii in the distance medley relay. Kenton Taylor earned a 2nd place finish in the 60 meter hurdles improving on his National qualifier from the previous week. Vincent Morogah won the 3000 meter run and was joined by Denis-Bull Olinga in earning National qualifying times. The other mens winner was Jamaury Harris in the triple jump with a bound of 48’5.5”. The MBU women earned a 1-2-3 sweep in the 400 meter dash with Coreen Ellis (59.38) and Nickesha Anderson (1:00.02) earning National qualifying performances. MBU’s star sprinter, Anderson, also led the charge in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.64 seconds. Freshman Meagan Hudson won the 3000 meter run by over 30 seconds with a National qualifying time of 10:31.65. LaShayla Bell (9.35) and Aundrea Taylor (9.44) went 2-3 in the 60 meter hurdles with National qualifying times as well. The Spartans travel next week to Findlay, Ohio to continue to build on another strong season.
