Women's Volleyball, Mercado, Named 2006 Tachikara-NAIA National Player of the Year (December 5, 2006)

Missouri Baptist University senior, Ana Mercado, was named the 2006 Tachikara-NAIA National Player of the Year released by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Office on December 4th, 2006. The 6’2 outside hitter from Tepic, Mexico helped lead the MBU Lady Spartans to a 40-10 overall record and their second consecutive trip to the NAIA National Championships. MBU was eliminated in Elite Eight action of National Tourney play. Mercado had a stellar showing at the National Tournament as she averaged over eight kills per game (.384%) and 11 blocks in leading MBU to a 3-2 record at the 2006…

Women's Volleyball Falls Short in Elite Eight (December 3, 2006)

Columbia, Mo. – The No. 9 Missouri Baptist Lady Spartans swept Hastings College in their play-in qualifier match, this morning, at the 2006 NAIA National Volleyball Championships, before losing to National American University, this afternoon, ending their run at the 2006 National Championship. In their first match, the Lady Spartans, in straight sets, defeated Hastings 30-24, 30-24, 35-33, followed by their afternoon, quarterfinal match, where the Lady Spartans fell to Northern American 19-30, 27-30, 21-30. Missouri Baptist was able to sweep Hastings University in three straight sets, dominating all the statistical categories edging Hastings in hitting percentage (.237 to .160),…
