Women's Volleyball Advances to NAIA National Tourney

The MBU women’s volleyball team will receive the Region V automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament for the second year in a row. The Lady Spartans will compete in Columbia, MO for the NAIA National Championships from November 29th - December 2nd. The team advances after defeating Lindenwood University Friday night and Columbia College on Saturday afternoon. The team was led by Ana Mercado’s 61 kills and Tracey Abell’s 72 digs. Senior captain, Shannan Swiney, dished out 113 assists over the weekend in helping lead the Spartans back to the National Tournament. The victory over 6th ranked Columbia College on Saturday should help the Spartans earn a higher seed and a more favorable route to the playoff round of the national tournament.

Ana Mercado was named the Region V Player of the Year and Tracey Abell was named the Region V Libero of the Year.
