Women's Volleyball Starts 2-0 at NAIA Tourney (November 30, 2006)

Columbia, Mo. – The No. 9 Missouri Baptist Lady Spartans swept their first two matches, at the 2006 NAIA National Volleyball Championships, sweeping Georgetown 30-22, 30-27, 30-25 and defeated Northwestern 30-22, 30-25, 24-30, 30-28. With the win, the Lady Spartans improve to 2-0 at the 2006 Championships. Missouri Baptist was able to sweep Georgetown in three straight sets despite a close statistical match with Missouri Baptist having the slight edge in hitting percentage (.121 to .113), kills (32 to 31), assists (31 to 29), service aces (13 to 5) and falling in the categories of digs (28 to 49) and…

Women's Volleyball Advances to NAIA National Tourney (November 20, 2006)

The MBU women’s volleyball team will receive the Region V automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament for the second year in a row. The Lady Spartans will compete in Columbia, MO for the NAIA National Championships from November 29th - December 2nd. The team advances after defeating Lindenwood University Friday night and Columbia College on Saturday afternoon. The team was led by Ana Mercado’s 61 kills and Tracey Abell’s 72 digs. Senior captain, Shannan Swiney, dished out 113 assists over the weekend in helping lead the Spartans back to the National Tournament. The victory over 6th ranked Columbia College…

Three Spartan Wrestlers Place At Coe Invitational (November 20, 2006)

(CEDAR RAPIDS, IA) - Three members of the Missouri Baptist wrestling team place in the top four of their respective weight classes at the Coe College Invitational, which was held this past Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Freshman Shay Lauderdale (Azle, TX) secured a third-place finish in the 141-pound weight class by posting a 4-1 record at the tournament. Also placing third respectfully in their weight classes were junior Chas Skelly (Azle, TX) at 157, and senior Jared Bonnell (Farmington, MO) at 285. Missouri Baptist Host 4th Annual Hall of Fame Banquet (November 13, 2006)

Missouri Baptist University Athletics hosted the fourth annual Hall of Fame Banquet on November 10th in MBU's Mabee Great Hall. The ceremony opened with recognition of the 2005 AMC Coaches of the Year and athletic accomplishments, which included two NAIA Track & Field National Championships. The opening comments were followed by dinner and a time of fellowship with former and current MBU athletes and coaches. With aproximately 200 guests present, MBU Director of Athletics, Thomas Smith and 2004 Hall of Fame inductee, Lowell Pitzer, inducted one new member into the Missouri Baptist University Athletic Hall of Fame. Men's Basketball Hangs Around with NCAA D-I, Western Illinois (November 10, 2006)

MACOMB, Ill. – The Spartans traveled to Macomb, IL Thursday for an exhibition game against NCAA I, Western Illinois University, and fell to the Leathernecks 86-69. The loss does not count against the Spartans, so MBU remains 2-1 on the season. The Spartans traded leads with the Leathernecks through the first 11 minutes of the opening half, until a 3-pointer by WIU with 8:25 left in the first period gave Western an 18-16 lead, from which they never looked back. Wrestling Falls Short at McKendree Dual Meet (November 9, 2006)

(LEBANON, Ill.)The Missouri Baptist University Men’s Wrestling Team traveled this past Wednesday to Lebanon, Illinois to face their Mississippi River rival, McKendree College. This was the first dual meet of the season for the Spartans. The Spartan Wrestling Team did not fair well in the border war with McKendree. With only three starters in the lineup of ten, the Spartans were only able to win one match. The only win for the Spartans came from sophomore Edgar Haynes (Cedars Rapids, IA).
