Wrestling Opens up at Lindenwood Invite (October 30, 2006)
The Missouri Baptist University Men’s Wrestling Team Traveled to Lindenwood University to Compete in the Lindenwood Open. This was the first big tournament of the season. Perennial NCAA Division I teams like Oklahoma University and University of Missouri, Columbia were present as were NAIA 2X Nationals Champs and host team Lindenwood University. The Spartans faired well with three wrestlers placing in the top six of their respected weight class. Each weight class had 22–30 wrestlers. MBU CC Men Defend AMC Crown (October 23, 2006)
The MBU Mens Cross Country Team won the American Midwest Conference Title for the 3rd straight year. The men swept the top four spots with the individual title going to Kenneth Kibii. Kibii was closely followed by teammates Denis-Bull Olinga, Vincent Morogah, and Timothy Makubuya, who all ran in a tight pack throughout the race. Pat Anderson (13th) and Chad Hammontree (18th) had solid races to round out the team scoring. Anderson, Morogah, and Andre Strachan also received recognition as Academic All Conference. Timothy Makubuya continued the mens winning ways by earning the Conference Freshman of the Year award. MBU…

MBU to Induct Joe Wasser into Athletic Hall of Fame (October 18, 2006)
Missouri Baptist University Director of Athletics, Thomas Smith, has announced the induction of Mr. Joe Wasser into the MBU Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2006. Coach Wasser arrived on the campus of Missouri Baptist University in 1984 as the first ever volleyball coach. In his inaugural season, he managed to lead the team to a respectable 15-17 record and had two student-athletes named to the All-Conference Team. Coach Wasser then began a stretch of four 20+ win seasons with strong recruiting and great leadership. In 1985, Coach Wasser led the Lady Spartans to a 39-7 record and the school’s…

MBU Bowling Wins First Tournament (October 16, 2006)
The Missouri Baptist University Bowling team achieved its first win in its young program. The Brickyard Classic in Indianapolis, IN held its 12th Annual tournament with a field of 25 teams. The MBU men’s team began the tournament in 3rd place after the first game. In the second game the Spartans took over the tournament lead and never looked back. On the second day of competition, the team enjoyed a comfortable lead but, had to complete a grueling 16-game Baker format. Led by team captain and overall All-Tournament leader Corey Young, the MBU Spartans erased any doubt of their dominance…

Missouri Baptist University boasts of three top 20 nationally ranked teams in the latest NAIA polls released on October 11th. The Missouri Baptist University Lady Spartan Volleyball team is ranked number nine with an overall record of 23-4. The Lady Spartans will host Columbia College on October, 13th at 7:00 pm. Currently the Cougars from Columbia and the Lady Spartans are tied atop the American Midwest Conference and are respectively number one (MBU) and number two (CC) in Region V play. CC Impressive at Border Wars Invite (October 9, 2006)
The MBU cross country team crossed the river to compete at the SIU-Edwardsville Border Wars Saturday. The Border Wars is one of the biggest meets in the area with over 30 teams representing the NAIA, NCAA Division I, II, III and Junior Colleges. Leading the way for the men was Denis-Bull Olinga. Olinga finished 4th out of more than 300 athletes in 25:12. Turning in their 2nd impressive performance in a row, Kenneth Kibii and Tim Makubuya were MBU's next finishers running 26:05 and 26:46 on the tough 8km course. Women's Volleyball Claims Top Three of Weekly Honors (October 5, 2006)
The Lady Spartans Volleyball team swept the American Midwest and Region V awards for the week of October 2-6. Ana Mercado is the recipient of the American Midwest Conference Volleyball Player of the Week award. Mercado, a 6-3 senior outside hitter from Tepic, Mexico, registered 83 kills in four matches last week to average 5.93 kills per game. Mercado also collected 52 digs, 14 service aces and 11 assisted blocks. Mercado, the 2005 AMC Player of the Year, currently leads the AMC in kills per game and service aces per game.
