Cross Country Rolls at Panther Open (September 18, 2006)

The MBU Cross Country team traveled to Eastern Illinois University this weekend to compete in the Panther Open. The men had a great performance finishing 4th, narrowly missing Eastern Illinois and Southeast Missouri State for 2nd. The Spartans were led by All American Denis-Bull Olinga. Olinga was the meet champion running an outstanding time of 25:03 for the 8 kilometer course. Joining Olinga at the front of the pack was Vincent Morogah. Morogah ended up in 3rd place, less than 10 seconds back. MBU’s men also had strong performances from Kenneth Kibii and Timothy Makubuya, who both ran personal bests.…

MBU Athletic Director, Tom Smith, Speaks to North County Christian High School (September 15, 2006)

On Thursday, September 14th, MBU Director of Athletics, Thomas Smith, presented a message, “Finishing the Race” to students in their chapel service at North County Christian High School in Florissant, Missouri. Accompanying Tom was MBU Cross Country and Track & Field All-American, Dennis-Bull Olinga. Dennis shared his tremendous accomplishments to the young audience which included representing his home country of Uganda, Africa in the 2002 Olympic Games. Women's Volleyball Defeats NCAA D-II, UMSL (September 15, 2006)

The Missouri Baptist University Women’s Volleyball team defeated the University Of Missouri St. Louis (NCAA Division II) Wednesday by scores of 30-25, 30-19, 28-30, 28-30, 15-12. The team was led by Senior outside hitter, Ana Mercado, with 30 kills and senior setter, Shannan Swiney, with 56 assists. The team battled back from an 8-2 deficit to outscore UMSL 13-4 to finish off game five. The Lady Spartans are currently ranked 6th in the NAIA.…

Men's Basketball, Edwards, Signs in the Dominican Republic (September 15, 2006)

Missouri Baptist University 2005 Alumnus, Ryan Edwards, has signed with Marineros de Puerto Plata de Puerta Plata in the Dominican Republic. Edwards was a Kentucky Pro-Am All Tournament team member and a standout at the KPA in 2006, as well as the IBL. KPA director Michael Stinnett was contacted by Edwards agent Jose Camacho in regards to finding a 6'5" scorer, and Edwards was the man suggested. Edwards help lead the MBU Spartans to an AMC title in 2005 and a National Tournament bid, while averaging 17 points per game and was an All-Conference selection. Edwards, only 23 years old…

MBU is Honored to Support Noah, a ten Year Old Cancer Patient (September 6, 2006)

Missouri Baptist University Athletics is proud to support Noah Donohoo, who has undergone three brain surgeries and radiation treatment for cancer in the last nine months. Noah is the son of MBU graduate, David Donohoo. Noah was honored in February of 2006 at an MBU men’s varsity basketball game when MBU Athletic Director, Thomas Smith, designated the game as “Noah’s Night”. Noah was an honorary coach for the night and sat right beside MBU head coach, Tony Tompkins. Noah’s third and most recent operation was deeper than the previous two; however, doctors feel they were able to extract the entire…

Women's Volleyball Reaches #4 in NAIA National Ranking (September 5, 2006)

The MBU Lady Spartans are coming off a 7-0 start and have been rewarded with a # 4 ranking in the latest NAIA national polls. MBU defeated #3 ranked Columbia College and #13 ranked Georgetown on Saturday to put them into this current position. They travel to Graceland University this weekend and may face up to four other ranked opponents, including # 1 ranked National America University.…

Cross Country Opens at Washington University (September 5, 2006)

The Missouri Baptist University Cross Country Team opened the 2006 season this weekend at the Washington University in St. Louis Early Bird Invitational. Juniors Vincent Morogah and Denis-Bull Olinga led the 16th ranked Spartans to a 4th place finish. Morogah and Olinga finished 1-2 both finishing in 19:02 over the 6-kilometer course. They were followed by Tim Makubuya, Pat Anderson, and Chad Hammontree. MBU’s women were led by freshman Meagan Hudson in a time of 15:32 for the 4-kilometer course. Hudson’s time placed her 12th in the field of 109 competitors in her first collegiate competition. The Spartan’s compete again…
