The Missouri Baptist University Lady Spartans battled NCAA Division II, Quincy University for the first three games, before pulling out the road win by scores of 30-24, 24-30, 32-30, 30-19 Wednesday night at Quincy’s Pepsi Arena.
Quincy led MBU, who is ranked # 6 in the NAIA national rankings, 28-24 in the third game. MBU’s Brittany Lukasek started a Lady Spartan rally with a kill. Following an attack error by the Lady Hawks, MBU’s Ana Mercado had two straight kills to tie the score 29-29. A block by the Quincy front line put QU on top 30-29. But, Missouri Baptist took advantage of two Quincy attack errors and MBU’s Mercado capped off the win with a kill.
Missouri Baptist, now 2-0 on the season, was led by Mercado with 32 kills and Shannan Swiney with 56 assists. MBU will be at the Columbia College Tournament this weekend.
