Women's Volleyball Defeats NCAA D-II, Quincy, on the Road (August 31, 2006)

The Missouri Baptist University Lady Spartans battled NCAA Division II, Quincy University for the first three games, before pulling out the road win by scores of 30-24, 24-30, 32-30, 30-19 Wednesday night at Quincy’s Pepsi Arena. Quincy led MBU, who is ranked # 6 in the NAIA national rankings, 28-24 in the third game. MBU’s Brittany Lukasek started a Lady Spartan rally with a kill. Women's Volleyball Opens Season with Easy Win (August 30, 2006)

The # 6 ranked Missouri Baptist University Lady Spartans Volleyball team opened up the 2006 season with a convincing 30-22, 30-24, 30-25 victory over rival Lindenwood University Tuesday night. Setter Shannan Swiney dished out 47 assists, while Ana Mercado had 26 of those kills for MBU. Junior transfer Randi Tyler had nine kills and 11 blocks to go with Tracey Abell’s 19 digs. Men’s Soccer Opens Season with Victories Against Two Ranked Opponents (August 28, 2006)

The 21st ranked Spartans traveled to Hastings College (NB) this past weekend and defeated 23rd ranked Bellevue University 1-0 and the 6th ranked Hastings College 2-1. In the first game against Bellevue University MBU dominated possession of the ball but could only finish one of their chances. In the 59th minute senior midfielder Hernan Merino scored the only goal from a shot just outside the box. MBU defense held tight and Juan Villacres recorded his first shutout of the season. Athletics Hires Downton as New Women's Lacrosse Coach (August 23, 2006)

Missouri Baptist University Director of Athletics, Thomas Smith, has announced the hiring of Regan Downton as the new Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach. Coach Downton assumed her new role on August 21st, 2006. Downton comes to MBU from Messiah College (PA) where she graduated with a degree in History. Downton then got her first coaching job at Drew University (NJ) as an assistant coach and then went on to be the head coach at Averett University (VA). “I am excited about the opportunity at Missouri Baptist University” said Downton. “I am anxious to get started and recruiting the kids that will…

Women's Volleyball Ranked Preseason #6 in the Nation (August 17, 2006)

The Lady Spartans Volleyball team will start the school year as the sixth best team in the nation. That is according to the 2006 NAIA volleyball national preseason ratings released on August 16th. MBU finished the 2005 campaign with a 38-7 overall record and landed number nine in the nation when it was all said and done. However, the Lady Spartans advanced to the 2005 NAIA Final Four. MBU received 250 total votes for this year’s ratings. MBU will be guided by second year head coach, John Yehling, who was voted the 2005 American Midwest Conference Coach of the Year…

Women’s Track, Holder, Qualifies for Semis at World Junior Championships (August 17, 2006)

Missouri Baptist University freshman, Nikkita Holder, qualified for the semifinals of the 100 meter hurdles at the World Junior Track and Field Championships in Bejing, China. Representing her home country of Canada, Holder's time of 13.97 is her fastest time of the year since finishing 3rd at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in May. Her 13.50 at the NAIA Nationals was tied for the eighth best time in the world for juniors heading into this weekend. Holder will compete in the semifinals this Friday August 18th at 5:25 am. MBU Tennis Will Host Varsity Tryouts (August 15, 2006)

Missouri Baptist University will be hosting varsity tennis tryouts for the fall 2006 team for all interested men’s and women’s tennis players on Saturday, August 19th at 9:30 am. Embick Called Upon to Lead Women's Soccer Team (August 1, 2006)

Missouri Baptist University Director of Athletics, Thomas Smith, announced the hiring of Jared Embick to lead the 2006 Lady Spartan Soccer Program. Coach Embick assumed his new role on August 1st. Coach Embick, who is also the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at MBU, will lead both programs in the 2006 season.
