Track Competes at SIUE
The MBU Track and Field squad braved the blustery conditions this past saturday at the Cougar Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Competing against several local teams on a windy Saturday, the Spartans earned several event wins along with a slew of new national qualifying performances. Nickesha Anderson led the way with event wins in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, along with anchoring the victorious 4x100 meter relay. Nikkita Holder powered away from the field in an impressive 14.12 to win the 100 meter hurdles. Maresia Pencil pulled away over the final 100 meters to win the 800 in 2:16. Nadina Marsh and Jackie Fleddermann turned in a 1-2 finish in the high jump, while Shernelle Nicholls had a big day winning the discus in a new personal best, and finishing top 3 in the javelin, shot put, and hammer throw as well.
The men had event wins from Jerome Foster in the high jump, a 1-2 finish from Titus Tirop and Juan Robles in the 5000, and Mike Gusbeth in the hammer throw. The Spartans also had a strong performance in the triple jump with Jamaury Harris and Kemar Smith earning automatic national qualifiers at 51-00.75 and 47-03.75 respectively. Kemar Smith and Jermaine Smith joined teammate Cornell Rose with qualifiers in the 400 hurdles.
The Spartans look to compete next this Thursday and Saturday at Washington University and Lindenwood University.
