Baseball Takes One of Four From McK
Missouri Baptist University fell three out of four games to cross town rival McKendree College over the weekend. By winning three of four games in the series from Missouri Baptist, McKendree put itself in the driver’s seat for the AMC regular-season championship. The Bearcats, who are ranked No. 8 in the NAIA, moved to 38-9 overall and 13-3 in the AMC. McKendree has a three-game lead on both Missouri Baptist and William Woods University in the league standings. The Bearcats need one win next weekend at Harris-Stowe State University to claim its second consecutive AMC regular-season title and the right to host the AMC Tournament May 3-5. Missouri Baptist is now 32-14 on the year and 10-6 in AMC action.
In game one on Saturday, Missouri Baptist, the No. 25 team in the latest NAIA poll, broke through with single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to trim its deficit to 6-2. The Spartans then rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to pull within 6-5.
In game two on Saturday The Spartans got on the scoreboard in the sixth on a solo home run by Brad Arnett before grabbing the lead in the seventh inning as Angel Samuel hit a three-run home run. Missouri Baptist added an insurance run on a bases-loaded walk to Mike Christman.
MBU will host Union University on April 25th for a 1:00 PM game time.
