Track Teams Again Finish Strong

The MBU Track & Field squad headed to Greencastle, Indiana this past weekend to compete in the Depauw Invitational. The women's took the team title with the men finishing a close second to SIU-Edwardsville. The women opened up with a meet and track record in the 4x200 meter relay. Lanece Clarke, Sherline Duncan, Sherine Shepherd, and Nickesha Anderson teamed up to run 1:41.51. The next race for the women saw freshman Betty Rotich win the 5000 in a meet record time of 16:54.14. Betty beat the second place finisher by over two and a half minutes. The Lady Spartans continued to roll with a 1-2 finish in the 55 hurdles for Nikkita Holder and Nadina Marsh with both ladies breaking the old meet record. Nickesha Anderson continued her winning ways with a meet record win in the 55 meter dash, with teammates Rachel Baldwin and Sherline Duncan following in a close third and fourth. Freshman Coreen Ellis ran a season best to finish second in the 400 in a national qualifying time of 58.70. The 600 meter dash saw MBU take 1-2-3. Denele DeVerteuil led teammates Shade St Louis and Nicola Smith with a meet and track record 1:35.58. Maresia Pencil finished a strong second in the 1000 with a national qualifying time of 3:00.68. Nikkita Holder followed up her hurdles victory with a thrid place finish in the 200. The 4x400 team of Coreen Ellis, Maresia Pencil, Denele DeVerteuil, and Nickesha Anderson set another meet record with a 3:52.55. In the field, Nadina Marsh continued her strong day. Marsh added a third place finish in the high jump and the long jump to go along with the second in the hurdles. Shernelle Nicholls threw right at her seasons best in the shot put for a second place finish.

The MBU men saw Vincent Morogah and Denis-Bull Olinga start off the meet with a 2-3 finish in the 5000. Both ran automatic qualifying times for the NAIA nationals. Olinga came back later to finish seond in the 3000 as well. Freshman Jesse King finished a close third in the 55 hurdles final with a nationals qualifier as well. Duran Brown ran a strong 55 meter dash to earn third place in that event as well. Titus Tirop had a 1-2 finish himself in the 1000 and the mile. Kenneth Kibii followed Tirop to a second place finish in the 1000. Keron Thomas brought home a silver in the 400 with a 51.01. The mens 600 saw Orlando Collins and Cornell Rose earn a 2-3 finish despite being in different heats. Jamaury Harris earned the MBU men their second event win by taking the long jump title. Jerome Foster had a 2-3 finish for himself in the high jump and the triple jump. Camoi Hood and Shawn Silvera had a strong competition in the shot put with both throwing seasons bests to finish second and thrid respectively. The Spartans close out their indoor regular seaon this week at Central Missouri State University. Below is how both teams fared at DePauw Invite.
