Men's Basketball Falls to Columbia College

The Spartans were plagued by injuries and fouls, but still managed to remain even with Cougars through 40 minutes of play before falling to Columbia College 82-76 in overtime in Columbia MO.

MBU had the ball at the end of regulation with the score tied at 66-66, but the game winning shot rimmed out and the game would be decided by an extra five minutes of play. The Cougars outscored MBU 16-10 in the extra period and pulled away for their sixth conference win in eight tries. MBU falls to 5-3 in the American Midwest Conference (19-7 overall). The Spartans fall to third place in the AMC behind UI-Springfield and Columbia College respectively.

MBU was led by Isaiah Johnson’s 22 points and Ryan Byrne’s 16 points. Frank Penn added 14 points for MBU. Columbia was led by Chambly Bryant’s 24 points. MBU had two starters foul out, Alonzo Franklin and Frank Penn. That hurt the Spartans who were playing without starter Joe Rothweiler, who is out with a broken wrist.

MBU will be in action again on Saturday February, 11th when they travel to Williams Baptist College.
