Men's Basketball Rolls Past HLG

The Spartans improve to 19-6 on the season and 5-2 in league play after an 80-72 home victory Saturday against Hannibal LaGrange College. HLG falls to 9-16 and 3-4 in the AMC.

HLG shot 58% from the three point arc in the first half while draining 11 first half three pointers for a 42-36 half time lead. HLG cooled off in the second half as they only connected on three more three point attempts and the Spartans took advantage. MBU outscored HLG by 14 in the second as they easily pulled away in the final two minutes of play.

MBU was led by Frank Penn’s 26 points. MBU’s Isaiah Johnson scored 18 points, Ryan Byrne added 15 points and 10 rebounds and Alonzo Franklin chipped in 11 points for MBU. The Spartans shot a dismal 54% from the foul line, but shot 52% from the floor. HLG was led by Josh Pickett, who had 24 points and six three pointers.

MBU will travel to Columbia College for an always exciting rivalry on February 9th for a 7 PM tip off. MBU handled Columbia the first time around 75-74.
