Track & Field Continues to Impress Nation
The MBU men's and women's Track & Field team had a big weekend competing both Friday night at the 19th annual Missouri Invitational and Saturday at the Illinois Wesleyan Relays. The tracksters solidified themselves as one of the top teams in the nation with numerous national qualifying performances.
Several new Spartans stepped right up and performed up to the MBU standard in their first competition with the team. Betty Rotich led the way with a stellar 10:05 in the womens 3000 on saturday. Fellow rookies Nadina Marsh, Lanece Clarke, Nikkita Holder, Tamara Francis, and Kenton Taylor followed suit with qualifying performances. MBU also qualified the mens and womens distance medley relays along with the womens 4x800 meter relay. Nickesha Anderson walked away with a couple of meet records in the 55 and 60 along her way to another undefeated weekend. Titus Tirop continued his outstanding season as well, running a stellar 2:29 in the 1000 at Mizzou. That gives him qualifiers in 4 events early in the '06 indoor season. Vincent Morogah qualified in the 3000 and joined Tirop, Terry Wood, and Denis-Bull Olinga in the Distance Medley Relay. Rotich followed up her 3000 performance by anchoring the womens DMR. She was teamed with Maresia Pencil, Shade St Louis, and Denele DeVerteuil.
The Spartans look to continue their march to the National Championships this weekend by competing at the University of Illinois.
