Men's Basketball Upset at McKendree College
The 23rd ranked Spartans fell to unranked McKendree College 88-73 on Saturday in an AMC match up. The upset drops MBU to 18-6 on the season and 4-2 in AMC play. The Bearcats snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 11-12 overall and 2-3 in American Midwest Conference action.
McKendree raced to a 19-7 lead in the first 10 minutes of play and maintained a double-digit lead for the majority of the first half. The Bearcats shot 51.6 percent in the opening half while holding Missouri Baptist to just 34.5 percent from the field in taking a 39-27 lead at the intermission.
The Spartans roared back, thanks in part to a 12-3 run, to grab its only lead of the night, 52-51, with 11:10 remaining. However, McKendree scored the next nine points to regain the lead for good, 60-52.
The Spartans were out rebounded 41-23. Franklin Penn led Missouri Baptist with 19 points and five assists, while Ryan Byrne added 13 points for the Spartans.
MBU is in action again when they host Hannibal LaGrange College on February 4th at 7:00 PM.
