MBU Represents the AMC Player of the Week in Both Women’s Basketball and Men’s Basketball; McMichel Named National Player of the Week
LaTrice McMichel of the MBU Lady Spartans has been named the American Midwest Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week and the NAIA National Player of the week. McMichel, a 6-1 senior guard, averaged 34.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and three assists per game in her team's two games on the week. Against William Woods University, McMichel scored a game-high 38 points, which included five three-point field goals as well as going 13-for-16 from the free throw line. In her next outing, McMichel led her Spartans to a conference victory over McKendree College in which she scored 31 points. She added seven rebounds, five assists and three steals in the contest as well. On the week McMichel shot 55-percent from the floor and hit on seven-of-14 three point field goals as well as knocking down 82-percent of her free throws. Missouri Baptist is now 13-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
The Spartans Franklin Penn has been selected as the American Midwest Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. The 6-7 senior forward from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, led the Spartans to a pair of victories last week, including a 75-74 win at home over AMC foe and No. 17-ranked Columbia College. Penn averaged 22.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and three assists in the two wins. Penn shot 55.2 percent from the field and 63 percent from the free-throw line in helping Missouri Baptist to a 3-0 start in league play
