Track & Field Show Strong Over Weekend (January 31, 2006)

The MBU Tracksters had another strong week this past weekend. Competing at both Findlay University and the University of Illinois-Champaign and the Spartans continued their stellar season. The multi-eventers had a strong showing at Findlay with Jackie Fleddermann and Dana Miller leading the way. Both scored over 3000 points, while Fleddermann improved on her performance that had her second in the nation. The rest of the team competed Saturday at Illinois and came away with several national qualifying performances. Despite being hit by the flu bug, MBU defeated several NCAA Division I challengers. Men's Basketball Upset at McKendree College (January 30, 2006)

The 23rd ranked Spartans fell to unranked McKendree College 88-73 on Saturday in an AMC match up. The upset drops MBU to 18-6 on the season and 4-2 in AMC play. The Bearcats snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 11-12 overall and 2-3 in American Midwest Conference action. McKendree raced to a 19-7 lead in the first 10 minutes of play and maintained a double-digit lead for the majority of the first half. The Bearcats shot 51.6 percent in the opening half while holding Missouri Baptist to just 34.5 percent from the field in taking a 39-27 lead…

Wrestling Competes Twice Over Weekend (January 30, 2006)

The Missouri Baptist University wrestling team fell to Lindenwood University in a dual on Friday 43-6. Lindenwood, the defending national champions, showed why they are a favorite to defend their title. Coach Jackson stated, “We were out wrestled in every match and the team did not stick to our game plan.” On Saturday the Missouri Baptist University wrestling team traveled to York, Nebraska for the York Open Wrestling Tournament. Volleyball Splits in Weeeknd Tourney (January 30, 2006)

The MBU Men's Volleyball team went 1-1 on the weekend in Quincy IL. In an exciting four game match, Missouri Baptist was defeated by California Baptist University 29-31, 24-30, 30-27, 22-30. Against California Baptist, MBU was led by Bryce Hickerson with 19 kills and Phil Goedeker with 15. Mike Walsh finished with 12 digs and Matt Washechek gave out 52 assists. In match two, Missouri Baptist defeated NCAA Division II Quincy University in three games, 30-22, 30-25, 30-24. MBU Track Impressive this Weekend Beating Michigan State and Louisville (January 23, 2006)

The Missouri Baptist Track Team continues to impress foes this indoor season. Saturday, the MBU Tracksters competed at the Illinois Intivational hosted by the University of Illinois. The women came away with a third place finish. MBU was just behind second place Illinois State University and defeated the University of Louisville, Michigan State University, and SIU Edwardsville. The MBU women accomplished this feat without the services of the NAIA's top sprinter Nickesha Anderson, or nationally ranked sprinters Sherline Duncan and Sherine Shepherd. MBU Represents the AMC Player of the Week in Both Women’s Basketball and Men’s Basketball; McMichel Named National Player of the Week (January 18, 2006)

LaTrice McMichel of the MBU Lady Spartans has been named the American Midwest Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week and the NAIA National Player of the week. McMichel, a 6-1 senior guard, averaged 34.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and three assists per game in her team's two games on the week. Against William Woods University, McMichel scored a game-high 38 points, which included five three-point field goals as well as going 13-for-16 from the free throw line. In her next outing, McMichel led her Spartans to a conference victory over McKendree College in which she scored 31 points. She added…

Wrestlers Put on Fine Performance at Central Invite (January 16, 2006)

The Missouri Baptist University Wrestlers returned from the Central Invitational with three champions. Mike Aitch 125 lbs won his weight class and also met National Championship Qualification Standards. True Freshman Cody Rouse ran off straight wins to capture the title at 157lbs. Jared Bonnell won the championship at the heavyweight class. Jared looked unstoppable pinning all four of his opponent in the first period. Also meeting National Championship Qualification Standards were Edgar Haynes who was fifth at 141lbs and Chas Skelly second at 149lbs. Chas Skully looked good considering he is recently recovering from pneumonia. Chas forfeited in the finals.…

Track & Field Continues to Impress Nation (January 16, 2006)

The MBU men's and women's Track & Field team had a big weekend competing both Friday night at the 19th annual Missouri Invitational and Saturday at the Illinois Wesleyan Relays. The tracksters solidified themselves as one of the top teams in the nation with numerous national qualifying performances. Several new Spartans stepped right up and performed up to the MBU standard in their first competition with the team. Betty Rotich led the way with a stellar 10:05 in the womens 3000 on saturday. Fellow rookies Nadina Marsh, Lanece Clarke, Nikkita Holder, Tamara Francis, and Kenton Taylor followed suit with qualifying…

Wrestling Finishes 12th at University of Indianapolis Invite (January 9, 2006)

The Spartans returned from the Midwest Classic hosted by the University of Indianapolis with three of their eight wrestlers placing. The Spartans were the highest placing NAIA school at the tournament as a team (12th place team finish) out of 20 participating teams. In the team standings the Spartans had 49 points out pointing the current NAIA 15th ranked team Campbellsville University. This 20 team tournament hosted some of the top NCAA Division II and III teams in the nation. Men's Basketball Defeats Park University (January 7, 2006)

The Spartans improved to 14-4 on the season after downing Park University 92-84 in their last non-conference match-up of the season. MBU, who is ranked number 13 in the NAIA national polls, will be in action again when they travel to Hannibal LaGrange College on January 12th. The Spartans will look to defend their two time AMC title and advance to the NAIA National Tournament for a third consecutive year.…

Men's Basketball Rolls After Christmas Break (January 6, 2006)

The Spartans responded after a two week Christmas break with a 104-67 pounding on Concordia Seminary. The Spartans, who are ranked 13th in the latest NAIA national polls, improve to 13-4 on the season. MBU was led by Ryan Byrne’s 19 points and Joe Rothweiler, who added 18 points. Three other Spartans reached double figures on the evening. The Spartans added to new faces to the roster.
