Track & Field Opens Indoor Season Qualifying 17 for NAIA Nationals
The Missouri Baptist University Track and Field Team blasted its way through its first competition at the University of Findlay. The Spartans opened their season by qualifying 17 athletes for the NAIA National Championships in 28 events. Qualifying on the men's side are Denis Bull-Olinga in the 3000m, Kemar Smith in the 60m hurdles and triple jump, Jerome Foster in the high jump and triple jump, and Gentel Sykes in the 60m hurdles. Qualifying for the women are Nickesia Anderson in the 60m dash, the 200m dash and the 4x400m relay, Sherline Duncan in the 60m dash, the 200m dash and the 4x400m relay, Sherine Shepherd in the 60m dash, 200m dash and 4x400m relay, Charminique Ray in the 4x400m relay, Maresia Pencil in the 800m and the 4x400m relay, Denele DeVerteuil in the 800m and the 4x400m relay, Nicola Smith in the 4x400m relay, Shernelle Nicholls in the shot put and weight throw, Coreen Ellis in the 4x400m relay, Ashley Harris in the long jump, Dana Miller in the 60m hurdles, Jackie Fleddermann in the 60m hurdles, and Malori Barnes in the 60m hurdles.
After such a stellar start to the indoor season, Coach Vincent Bingham said, "I'm very proud of what we have accomplished this early, but there is still a lot of work to be done. We saw the team really come together at this meet, and we expect even greater things out of them in the next few weeks, and on through the season."
The team will travel to Southern Illinois University on Friday for their next competition.
