Men's Basketball Handles Park University (November 30, 2005)

The Spartans improve to 8-3 with a 67-63 victory over Park University Tuesday night. Park falls to 3-9 on the season. MBU was led by Frank Penn, who had 20 points and seven rebounds. Ryan Byrne added 11 points and Jimmy Cessna chipped in ten points. Cessna led MBU with eight caroms. MBU trailed 31-29 at the break, but out scored Park by six in the second half. MBU shot 42% from the floor, 31% from the arc, and 66% from the foul line. Park was held to a dismal one of 15 shooting from the three point line. MBU…

Bowling Finishes Sixth at the National Match Game Competition (November 28, 2005)

The Missouri Baptist University Men’s and Women’s bowling teams participated in the National Match Game Competition. Outside the National Championships, this tournament is the most prestigious and highly competitve event in the nation. After exciting qualifying competition, the Spartans were in eighth position moving into the final two matches. During the finals, MBU bowled well enough to move into sixth place overall and gained entry into the competition next season. Helping the Spartans to their sixth place finish was Mike Sapolis, who was named to the All-Tournament team. Sapolis finished sixth among the 110 participants with an average score of…

Women's Basketball Defeats Maryville (November 22, 2005)

The Lady Spartans improve to 7-1 on the season with a 64-54 victory over NCAA D-III Maryville University. MBU was led by LaTrice McMichel, who had 21 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Angela Cerrito followed with 16 points. Three other Lady Spartans chipped in with eight points each. Maryville was led by Carrie Snyder's 17 points. MBU shot 83% from the foul line and outrebounded the Lady Saints by nine. MBU's Megan Brown grabbed 13 caroms. MBU will travel to Fontbonne University on November 29th.…

Women's Volleyball Wins Region, Qualifies for NAIA Tourney (November 21, 2005)

Columbia, Mo. – Missouri Baptist University defeated Columbia College in the Region V Championship match Saturday. The victory by the Lady Spartans stopped the Columbia Cougar volleyball team from winning its eleventh straight region title. Scores were; 30-21, 25-30, 25-30 and 28-30. Columbia, which is 35-4 on the season, is ranked No. 10 in the final NAIA National Rating. Missouri Baptist, ranked No. 9 in the NAIA, improves to 34-5 on the season with Saturday’s victory. The Lady Spartans defeated Columbia just a week ago when they claimed the American Midwest Conference post season title in Columbia’s gym. The Cougars…

Two From Cross Country Team Compete at Nationals (November 21, 2005)

Denis-Bull Olinga and Vincent Morogah represented MBU Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky, at the 50th NAIA National Cross Country Championships. Over 261 of the nations finest distance runners lined up to compete on the sunny but, cool morning. Racing in the top 15 throughout the race, MBU's Denis-Bull Olinga was able to sprint home in a time of 25:02, which was good enough for 13th place overall. Olinga's race earned him All-American status for the second year in a row. Morogah was in contention for All-American status throughout the race finishing 38th with a time of 25:28. Athletics Inducts Three Members Into the Hall of Fame (November 15, 2005)

Missouri Baptist University Athletics hosted the third annual Hall of Fame Banquet on November 11th in MBU's Mabee Great Hall. The ceremony opened with recognition of four MBU fall sport coaches being selected as AMC Coach of the Year, followed by dinner and a time of fellowship with former and current MBU athletes and coaches. MBU Director of Athletics, Tom Smith, inducted three new members into the Missouri Baptist University Athletic Hall of Fame. Women's Volleyball Captures AMC Tournament Championship (November 12, 2005)

The Missouri Baptist University Women’s Volleyball team defeated Columbia College Saturday afternoon to claim the post season AMC title. Scores were; 30-24, 24-30, 24-30, 30-23, and 15-8. The Spartans improve to 31-5 on the season and Columbia drops to 33-3. MBU entered the match ranked # 12 in the recent NAIA national rankings. Junior Ana Mercado, of Tepic, Mexico, had 30 kills for the Spartans, and freshman, Tracey Abell, St. Charles, MO, added 30 digs. Spartan Wrestling Defeats SIU Edwardsville (November 10, 2005)

The Men’s Wrestling team defeated SIU Edwardsville, winning by a score of 23 to 18. The Cougars would not go down quietly, it would come down to the final match of competition before MBU claimed victory. Going into the final match, the team score was 23 MBU, 18 SIUE. MBU’s Nigel Kinworthy would take on Sean Tyus from SIUE in the final match. Any decision made for either MBU or SIUE would assure a victory for either team. Men's Soccer Takes Home Three of Top Four AMC Awards (November 7, 2005)

Lebanon, Ill.. – Hernan Merino, a junior midfielder for Missouri Baptist University, has been named the 2005 American Midwest Conference Most Valuable Player. Merino, who hails from Guayaquil, Ecuador, recorded seven goals and four assists on the season while helping the Spartans to a conference title in 2005. Merino was also named to his second consecutive AMC All-Conference First-Team. The AMC Freshman of the Year honor is goes to the the top first-year player in the conference. The Lady Spartans start the season 2-0 with a 61-49 victory over Ashford University (IA) Saturday night. MBU was paced by LaTrice McMichel's 17 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals. Women's Soccer Wins AMC Post Season (November 4, 2005)

Missouri Baptist Women’s Soccer captured the AMC post-season conference tournament with a win over William Woods University Thursday night. The win came in Penalty Kicks, 3-2. This puts the Lady Spartans in the Regional Tournament for only the third time in the programs history. “I am very proud of these Ladies” said first year head coach, Chip Dutchik. “They have fought hard all year and I know they will do the same in the Regional Tournament.” MBU Goal Keeper, Megan Mercer, stopped three of William Woods penalty kicks to secure the victory for the Lady Spartans.…
