Men's Soccer Extends Win Streak to Seven
Missouri Baptist University took advantage of a solid first half to hang on for a 3-2 victory Tuesday night against University of Illinois Springfield. MBU scored early in the fifth minute when freshman midfielder Duran Myton received a pass from junior midfielder Lawrence Olum and shot it past the UIS keeper for a 1-0 lead. Late in the first half MBU took advantage of a counter attack to take a 2-0 lead into half time. Junior Midfielder Hernan Merino scored his seventh goal of the season on a pass from Brock Chatman for the second goal.
In the second half, UIS playing a man down, but stepped up their play. UIS pulled within one off a free kick in the 50th minute. MBU took a 3-1 lead in the 80th minute when junior defender Joe Connon made a great run out of the back and slid a ball to junior midfielder Gunther Koste who played a one touch ball to junior forward Rackley Thomas for the goal and a 3-1 lead. UIS struck back in the 86th minute, but it was too late.
MBU improves to 8-2 and 3-0 in conference. The win extends MBU’s win streak to seven games.
